Auburn Hills Recommendation

Hi All,

Looking for a solid track to play in this area that is open for the season

Have previously played Sheperds and Coyote Preserve.

We would like to play somewhere new to us.

Jeff's list is very good, but I wouldn't include Copper Hills.

How far is your radius from Auburn Hills? Just a little bit more of a drive is The Orchards, which is kinda tops in my book.

Thanks for the recs so far guys. We are going to be coming over in July to play The Orchards and Greystone.

 

How about Pine Knob, Pine Trace or Westwynd?

Pine Knob...I kinda dig it, but only Falcon and Eagle...Hawk is not my favorite nine. Pine Knob usually has nice greens and it's not a difficult course, certainly not in the class of The Orchards or Coyote Preserve. Westwynd is worth playing at least once, but it's not in my favorites. Pine Trace is decent, but it's not in my normal play rotation. I really love Greystone. The greens are very, very nice and usually quick enough for my taste. It's well known for it's three finishing holes.

 

In the entire city, here are my favorites in order. These are not the, "best" public courses, but my favorites.

1. Lyon Oaks. It can be very busy on the weekends. The greens could be a little bit quicker, but the design is genius. Of all of Arthur HIll's Metro Detroit designs, this is my favorite (yes, even more than Shepherd's Hollow).

2. The Orchards. Always in good condition. A true masterpiece of design.

3. Moose Ridge. Raymond Hearn is a very, very underrated course designer and this is his best work in the Metro Detroit area. There are some unusual holes, but none of them are gimmicky.

4. Coyote Preserve.

5. The Majestic. It's not in the condition it once was, and they have lowered the stimp speed over the years, but it's still the best Jerry Mathews course in the city. You have to play all 27 (19-27 was actually designed by Raymond Hearn and is my favorite nine).

There are a couple on this list that do not belong, but overall it's not a bad list.
