Ping G2 vs G10 irons? I know older sets but need to know which are preferred and why!

I know that these are old sets but I need to know what everyone thinks of them! If you have played them or still play them please post comments!

So far the only difference I can see or notice is that the G2's are smaller profile wise on the sole. The lofts, lies and lengths appear the same.

The G2's have the CS Lite's and the G10's have the AWT shafts so any shaft comparison/comments are welcome also!

Thx.

Had Every G iron ever made. G2 with CS Lite was a "good" iron but never felt right to me and the CS Lite was a disappointing feature IMO. The G10 - AWT, for me, I felt was one of the best Pre-loft jacking irons made. First rounds in the 70s with them. Looked and performed like my original Raptures but had the killer old school ping finish with a typical Ping feel, "I'm not forged. So what?! You just hit another GIR dummy!" Sadly, the original AP1s and hot new TMs supplanted them. I hit the G10s farther, higher and as straight as the G2.

I was going to add pretty much what you said, G10 is right about the time the profile got a bit larger in almost every dimension. Interestingly it seems like the G irons are going the opposite direction now.

Glove: ML
Tees: 2 3/4
Towel: white
Repair tool: metal
Ball Marker: largest poker chip in the world
Iron headcovers: wait, what?

The feedback system is annoying

I appreciate the comments and love the pic! Before I went on my hiatus of the game around 2009, I had a full Ping bag including the G10 driver, G10 4wd, G10 hybrid but went with the i10's for my irons. I liked that bag setup alot but like a dummy, I sold it off when I stop playing! Now I have a set of G2's that are like new and a set of G10 irons that are also like new so trying to figure out which set to keep and which to let go!

Thx for the comment!

Agreed. I am most likely putting G410s in my bag this week and probably return the Mizzy 919 HMs that were just delivered. Unhit. We are a sick lot.

The entire G10 line was a win for me! Driver? Perfect for me. Four metal? That is a "GQ regrets" selling moment. Bailed me out more times than I can count . The pic was after my first round of 77 in PHX.

Yeah I regretted selling the full set and all the accessories but then I figured I would not be playing again! Well, I started again in late 2017 with a cheap set of knockoffs that I got on Craigslist just to see if I can hit the ball again and I could so down the rabbit hole I went again!

OP, what about the G5’s? They offer up some great GI features in a tidier package than the G10s. The 10s started a stretch of 3 generations where Ping really widen the soles, while adding more weight near the bottom toe area. Super forgiving, but definitely a larger footprint.

Ping G400 Max 10.5*
Ping G425 5W
Ping G425 19* 3H
Srixon ZX5 4-P
Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth 50*, 54*, 58*
Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2+

I don't have the G5's but I do have a set of each one of the G2's and G10's! Maybe I should get rid of both and get something else? :)

The entire G-line is great, some better than others, but all are uber forgiving and hit the ball high. I’d go with the one that looks best to you, but more importantly, the one having the correct shaft, lie and length for you.

The G2's have a lot of offset in the shorter irons which I never liked. When they got to the G10 they had reduced the offset slightly and it was less obvious, I also liked the G10's darker finish better. Friend of mine still has G10s in the bag and when I hit them I don't feel like I'm giving up anything vs. my G25s which are 1* stronger. Size is very similar but I prefer the sole design on the G25 with the relief on the trailing edge. It was really the G15/20 that were starting to get too clunky. Ping seems to go in waves, the G25 was really slimmed down from the G20, then they started getting bigger again, now the 410 is again more compact.

Overall I think the G10 is still a great iron and very playable today if you don't mind a 27* 5 iron and 46* PW.

I played the G2s for a while, 3-LW really liked them and would play them again. Mine had CS lite shafts and they worked fine I thought. One thing about the G2's is mine lost a couple of the black weights on the back of the club. I just made some replacements myself so no big deal, also i think Ping will replace them.
