I’ve been a cobra guy for 10 years and I’ve used them all but had a trusty Fly Z+ that has been great for me. I tried the F9 and liked it but could never get it dialed in. I just got a M5 Tour a week ago and man is it solid. Great ball flight, easy to square the face and I’m getting probably 10 extra out of it consistently. The head I got sits dead square...I’ve read that some have had ones really open but to me the regular M5 sits way open in the ones I looked at. I love the look of the Tour head and I love the feel off the face. I didn’t like the feel of the M3 440. This head feels more flush. I added an extra 4 grams to the head and reduced the loft one click and it’s dialed in pretty good. I have a Smoke green 75 6.5 (not Tx) at 44.5”

It seems like pros can hit their target numbers with 460 with new shafts and head technology... I’ll be playing the most forgiving heads I can.

Generally speaking, I agree with this and the concept of playing the more forgiving head. A while back, it seemed like there was a decent correlation between swing speed/skill and playing the lower spinning head. Now, it seems like it's a random lucky draw bag for who's playing what.

I will probably give the more forgiving head a go again. The head shape/size is not a big deal to me. However, I have found that I need to use less loft in certain heads, and this tends to produce more bad swings (I want to try and hit up on it a lot more or I hang back trying to lift it a bit). That being said, the very bad shots are always worse with the more demanding head, so I'm still not sure where this shakes out for me yet.

I buy a driver based on what it does on decent strikes... The difference between OB and in bounds is huge, as is rough vs fairway... 10 yards further down the middle doesn't do much for my score in comparison.

I don’t see the Tour as unforgiving...like you I think you miss it you miss it but I don’t feel the Tour head lacks in any way on its performance on off center hits. Myself, I hit drivers that look good to me and perform well for me. This head looks perfect to MY eye and feels fantastic. I’m gaining yardage and my ballflight is great. I’m a very accurate driver of the ball and i feel I can hit this down a one lane road the flight is so consistent.

I'm really enjoying my M5 Tour. This is my first smaller head since the SLDR 430. The shape and size looks absolutely perferct to my eye. I was able to do a direct comparison to a 460 and just couldn't square the 460 as easily. I was definately more prone to leaking it out to the right. However, that may be what some folks are looking for. The confindece I have in being able to squared the smaller head is priceless and is more valuable to me than the forgivness of the larger head. With that being said, I don't find the M5 Tour to be all that unforgiving at all.

I’m curious if anyone has tried, or has thoughts on, the M5 Tour in a shorter length? I’ve always struggled with driver but absolutely stripe my trusty TM Mini Driver (the old school one from 2014). That said, at 42” with 14* of loft, I’m giving up a bit too much distance to completely replace the big stick. I was debating between trying the new Mini Driver or the M5 Tour (10.5*) at 43.0” to 43.5”. I pulled the trigger on the M5 Tour today, so we’ll see how it goes. At ~43” in length, my thinking is that’s it’s not really a smaller driver so much as a bigger Mini Driver.

Driver: Titleist TSi3 (9*), Shaft TBD

3W: Titleist TSi2 (15*) OR TSi3 (15*), Shaft TBD

5W: Titleist TSi2 (18*), Shaft TBD

Youll just need to add some weight back to the head most likely. It’s stock and 45.75 so fairly long. Mine is at 44.5 and I added an additional weight to the head, only 4 grams but it feels great to me. You can find weights on the bay, I bought a 4 and 7 gram weight, or good old lead tape.

Agreed. However, I can miss just as many fairways with the g400 max which is supposed to be the most forgiving driver. I’ll take the gains in distance, feel, sound and especially the flight I’m looking for with the m5. I’m not a TM groupie, first TM driver I have really liked.

  • 2 years later...

I know this an old thread, but being a frugal golfer (equipment wise) I picked one of these up a month ago from the trade in bin. In basically new condition, Tensei orange stock S 60g shaft 9 degree

Loft all the way down, weights back and slight draw bias. Love the head size, last driver was smaller srixon. First TaylorMade golf club ever.

I can hit a perfect cut, perfect draw, or a nice lower flight straight shot. Miss hits mostly find fairway, still hit occasional pull.  Great strikes 280ish or more off center 260ish.

I really like this club. Goes well with my mp-29s or Apex grinds.
