Clubs in Ponte Vedra

Pete Dye Rules

Recommended Posts

Just moved to Ponte Vedra and looking for some feedback/tips on some clubs. Have read through the old threads, but they are a bit dated. Preference is close to PVB. Not concerned with food or tennis - just golf. Good group of guys to play with and ability to get on without much notice.

Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks!

Charter membership would be awesome, but a bit more than I want to spend. Really liked the Valley course. Seems like it may get more play than the stadium?

Pv inn. Course looks cool....but they seem to have lost the greens. Assume that is what you meant by poor shape? Beach club would be nice for the wife.

Any thoughts on marsh landing or jax gcc? I know jax is shut down for new greens.

Thanks again!

Appreciate the responses.

I'm in the same boat you were in, can't stop going back and forth on the choice. That's why I ended up here :)

Not sure what the reciprocity is with the valley if they are closed for an outing. They were very not very clear when asked. I would imagine that not being private helps much.

It's tough with no clear winner.

I’ve played Marsh Landing several times and just last week. That’s a great course.

Always in great shape. Private so don’t have to worry about resort guests. Above average practice facility. My friend that is the member said they have some good men’s games as well.

I’d definitely consider it if you like the layout.

I've been a Valley Member for 12 years and currently coordinate a Tuesday/Friday group (generally 3 to 5 foursomes). The thing with the Valley being unavailable for outings and/or resort guests is a bit overblown. There are several times a year, particular around October, where there are a few outings, but overall not a big issue. A few months ago, I did a tally for our group. Out of 104 Tuesday/Fridays in the past year, we were blocked out 14 times. Three we played Monday, Wednesday or Thursday instead. We 'traveled' the other times. We also have to travel during aeration weeks (they aerate once a month, May, June, July and August). We enjoy occasionally playing other courses and it is no problem getting tee times and good rates. The club can help us get on at WGV, Palencia, Amelia National at decent rates, although you are right, there is no real reciprocity. I make arrangements at the other courses we play (St Johns, Southhampton, Queens Harbor, Oak Marsh at Amelia, etc.). BTW, the recently renovated Jacksonville Beach Golf Club (municipal) is fantastic! $27 (senior rate), amazing conditions for a muni, challenging and fun to play. They hired the PV Inn & Club general manger and the greenskeeper to supervise the renovation and run the new facility and they're doing a fantastic job.

We could play Marsh Landing anytime we want. Most of us don't really care that much for it. Nice course, but nothing like the Valley. And until the long-time owner figures out what he is going to do with the course, I wouldn't invest a penny in it. JG&CC is ok, but not worth the cost. Same with Sawgrass CC. Great course, average practice facilities, way too pricey (i'm retired, family is grown and wife does not golf, so all the CC facilities mean nothing to me).

For pure golf, Valley is the best deal in golf (or at least in Jacksonville). The course is a great design, very challenging and in the best shape its ever been in. And the practice facilities are world class (we share with the Stadium, same access). aabb312 is almost fanatically in love with the Stadium Course and for him, it appears the Charter membership is well worth it. But I don't know if my fragile golf psyche could hold up playing the Stadium all the time. I'm totally fine with playing it 5 or six times a year!
