PXG 0311X 2 Driving Iron - should be illegal

If you bag a 2 iron, please do yourself a favor and try the 0311X.

 

Over the course of the last 5 years, I've tried a lot of driving irons - Fli Hi, TMB, Apex, every TM UDI back to 2014 and most recently the GAPR. With all of them I've always battled spin due to my steep angle of attack with long irons. This lead to a high-ish ball flight (for a 2 iron) and no roll. Pretty boring but longer than my 4 iron and finds the fairway more often than a smooth 3W. That's what a 2 iron meant to me...until today.

 

This 0311X is producing an explosive, low and penetrating ball flight from an iron that honestly looks too fat and forgiving to produce such a ball flight. The sound and feel of the club is what makes this thing seem illegal. It's also so easy to hit it feels like cheating. Solid hits produce a very loud snap sound followed by the hiss off the ball heading off like a missile. I s*** you not, I had 2 tee balls today 270+ which carried 250+...with an IRON. So like I said, if your story sounds like mine, try the 0311X.

Highly prefer my udi's over this model though. I think many can attest to the same great results with other models.

The PXG Gen 2 driving irons are fantastic. I’ve got the 2i and use it on windy days. I carry the 4i Driving iron as an everyday club. I was fitted and was surprised as he saw I hit the hybrids well but went with the 4i and then to the 17* hybrid. The 4i is easy to hit off the tee and off the ground. Forgiving and I can flight it high or a nice penetrating flight.

Exactly and why I have three 0311X PXG driving irons in the bag! Glad I got them before the USGA makes them illegal. :D

Put mine in the bag last year and love it. The tinkerer in me had me trying some other DI lately just to see whats out there but nothing has come close. The only one that actually feels just as good and surprisingly goes nearly as far is my Miura CB-57 2 iron (real 2 iron, not DI). Just much harder to pure it, ha!

The 0311X Gen 2 2 iron and the Operator H are the only 2 clubs in my bag I paid full price for as I get substantial discounts for another brand... Worth every penny. Great off the tee, and surprisingly great off the turf as well.

Is this still the case with everyone? On the fence if I should consider a fairway finder. I know others have commented in other threads on this.

I use the 3 as my driving iron and supplement it with the 17* hybrid.  Both clubs from PXG have been terrific, shaft choice being the variable.

do you not carry an additional wood then or do you drop a wedge?

I have a Callaway Heavenwood (4 wood head size and length with 7 wood loft) and PXG Gen 1 0311X followed by 0211 5-W and could not be happier. 198 carry for the Heavenwood (high soft landing approaches) and 178 on the 0311X (low running chasers). Both end up right in the 200+ total distance range but offer vastly different flights, despite having the same loft. Both are very easy to hit but if I needed 200 yards and wasn’t forced to carry anything I’d hit the PXG.

I use a DI on 3-4 holes every round and consider it one of the most important clubs in my bag.  This is the club that opened my mind to PXG.  The only knock against it is how low it flies, but for me that's a benefit.  Low stingers with lots of forgiveness.  It was the only DI that could (finally) knock my Ping Rapture Di out of the bag.

Anyone compare this to the Mizuno HMB MP-20s? Looking at this as a replacement for my 0311X 2I as it would come with a shaft similar to my 0211s and maybe something I can hit off the deck easier?

Or does anyone have this with a steel shaft? Thinking of making my 2I 1 deg weak and 3I length with steel to make it usable from the tee and the deck. Would need to get more PXG screws then to adjust the SW to D0.

Randomly stumbling upon this thread and seeing the sale price on PXG’s website, I now have a 2 iron coming here in a couple weeks. We’ll see how I like it. 
 

FYI I called them to place my order and they had way more options available than what their site shows.

This thread inspired me to take mine out for 9 holes. 250+ yard bullets that were perfect on a windy day. Ive got a Tensei Pro White 90 which is too light for a driving iron compared to my iron shafts, but When I get it working its a bomber.

This is where being left handed has its advantages.  I ordered a 2 iron today from them and they even have a 1 iron, which is mighty tempting.  I'll see how i hit the 2 iron first.

Just called and apparently they are sold out of the 2.   Disappointing.  Played yesterday and hit my 4 great.  Was thinking a 2 would be a good compliment.  Guess I’ll have to watch the BST forum.

I have a 2 that I am on the fence about keeping. The top of my bag is so full of inconsistency this is the best but for me is only good off the tee as I haven’t tried to use it much off the deck. It was a decent driver replace the for me when I was struggling.
