When I made my reservations, the woman on the phone went over all of this in detail when we were setting up our tee times.

He didnt specify but sounds like he is recording a podcast with Matt Ginella soon and they're going to go more in depth about their Bandon trip. I'd assume they may bring up SR some more in that.

I'm going on my 2nd trip to Bandon, Thanksgiving 2019.

I originally planned to fly AA nonstop Phoenix-Medford. Departing on Thanksgiving Day and returning that Monday. I got an email the other day from AA that there had been a schedule change. They wanted to me now have a 35 min layover at LAX. I thought that was too tight and didn't want to get stuck in LA so I switched to the nonstop on Wednesday. I am going to stay at a Hampton with points on the way Wednesday night.

Right now my schedule is:

Friday: Bandon then Trails

Saturday: Old Mac then Pac

Sunday: Pac then Old Mac

Pacific Dunes & Old Mac were my 2 favorite courses (not including the Sheep Ranch (RIP)) when I did my first Bandon trip Thanksgiving weekend 2017. So my question is what should I do on Thursday? I am a single and its Thanksgiving so its pretty wide open, Bandon Dunes is the only course closed that day. I'm guessing I'll arrive at Bandon at around 11am (wake up, shower, breakfast, 2.5 hour drive from Grants Pass). Sunset in late November is approx. 430pm

Options:

Punchbowl: I just walked it last time

Shorty's: I didn't play this last time. I believe it is only open in the afternoons

Preserve: I played 4 holes with a few clubs last time when I leftover sunlight after walking 36. I thought it was okay, however, I didn't see the ocean holes and 6 somes drinking beers is not the type of golf I enjoy

Trails: I played it once last time and I really enjoyed it (in my top 25 courses I've ever played). However, I am in love with links golf and that's what I go to Bandon.

Labryinth: I definitely want to fit this in for 15 mins again. Very cool little hike and I've have since taken up yoga

Also, should I plan on going to the beach, check out the town of Bandon and dinner one night?

Nice trip, looks cool. If it was me I'd go try to walk on to Trails or the Preserve since Bandon is closed, whichever one is available. (probably both on Thanksgiving day) If that isn't an option, then I'd head over to the range and play Shorty's, good warm up and free. This would more than likely also give you time to hit the Labryinth or wander down to the beach on the walking trail that goes through the same area as Trails/Preserve.

Did you get a room at the resort for Thursday night or in town somewhere? My last trip I showed up a day early with the plan of staying in town, and I was early enough that I just walked on to Old Mac and they still gave me the resort guest green fee even though I wasn't checking in until the next day.

Then I'd for sure try to get on Trails Thursday if it was me. Give reservations a call and see what's available. Since the weather is so unpredictable in the off season, I take the approach of scheduling more golf just in case the weather is so bad you can't play, and hold onto the voucher (gift card) for future rounds. It's good forever, so can be used on future trips. I'm guessing by your previous posts that you have joined the proud ranks of the Bandon addicts.

You're going to be playing quite a lot of golf, so having a mellow arrival day might be a great way to begin your trip (Range, Preserve, Shorty's, Labyrinth, your own yoga routine, etc..).

You're solo, so the cool part is that you really don't have to plan anything, just do what you feel. I've never felt the need to head into town. I'd rather just soak in the feel of the resort (fire place outside of McKees, short trail above the Bandon parking lot, punchbowl, clubhouse patios, etc....)

I'd toss a headlamp into your bag so you don't have to worry about making your way back to the clubhouse in the dark and you can chill out if you get stuck out after dark (either playing, or walking out on the beach).

I believe they allow you to make reservations for the entire year the year before. So on January 1, 2020, we can make reservations for all of 2021. Is that the case? I know I can easily check, but i prefer harassing you guys first.

I believe that is the case, although the earliest I've ever booked is about 14 months out. I've gotten down to a pattern of a "main" Bandon trip in the spring, and a "supplemental" trip in the late fall if I happen to get the urge. I don't think I've ever had more than two upcoming trip emails from Bandon saved in my inbox at any one time.

I have never gotten one of these.

Probably because they know I'm coming back, so no need to waste the emails...

Interesting, I thought it was SOP... it was nice because we turned it in and didn't need to call January 1 to make our reservations.

Wonder if it's because I always make reservations as a single (our group all makes their own reservations when I go non-solo).

Not having to set the alarm for Jan 1 AM would be nice...

Yeah I always make the reservation for my group and then have each person call and put their information on file so that they can charge everyone individually.

I'm sure it's because you're booking a group. I go with a group every year, but we book individually, and I've never gotten the advance email.

Or maybe I need to buy more junk in the gift shop.

Well hopefully I get one again this year... makes planning my trip a little bit easier.

I've never gotten one booking our foursome in and I assume it's because making the reservation the day you leave the property kind of makes it moot ;-)
