Random Bandon Thread

After years of dreaming I’ll finally be there sun-wed. Playing SR and preserve on sun, and playing 36 on mon and tues,

leaving wed.  Loved reading all the reviews and tips, and hoping I can add my tidbits to this thread. I’ve been checking the weather all month and it’s been sunny every day, expect now it looks like some rain on Sun. Guess I’ll get the full Bandon experience although my rain jacket is water resistant and even though it’s only one day, I think I need to invest in some real rain jacket and pants.

Curious to know if you are regular walking golfer? I walk 120ish rounds per year so I don't find anything special needed at Bandon other than changing socks between rounds. I also like to change shoes as much as I can throughout a trip and bring 3 or 4 pairs.

Having said all that I do find coolmax sock liners great when hiking but have never given the a try for golf. That might be good for person who does not walk allot and have blister issues.

Walk a few rounds a month but also walked about 25 miles a week (on top of 3 to 5 miles a day normal walking) for about 6 weeks going into the trip.

If I'm reading right, that's about $700+ on your 36 hole days? As someone who lugged bags for a living, I would hope 700 would make him happy for a long day's work, unless that much has changed since I left the game 5 years ago.

It was closer to about $650 per day on 36 days, but he was offering advice on clubs and putts for pretty much every golfer.. He truly did a great job.

Hoping someone can help me out.

our flight home from Eugene got pushed back to 3:30 on wed 9/22 so we’re hoping to get one extra round in wed morning. I called Bandon and they obviously couldn’t find us a tee time with this short notice but maybe we can play some of the courses near Bandon. If anyone has any good suggestions for courses near the property I’d appreciate it. We are shipping our clubs back so we have to play near Bandon.

Bandon Crossings is about 20 minutes away and a decent course. Certainly nothing like the Bandon property courses but a decent play and a nice change of pace. I believe that's where a lot of the locals and the caddies play. I do believe it's the opposite direction of the airport though.

Can they not get you on Preserve even? IMO you're in for a long day if you're trying tee off right around sunrise, back to the resort, pack up / drop your gear off, 2.5-3 hour drive depending on any detours or closures or gas stops and at worst you want to be getting to the airport at....245/3?

Tough call, I dont know.

Yeah don't even take a chance - maybe if the flight was pushed to 5PM or later you could make it work?

Get a morning loop on Preserve, drop your sticks, then hit the road.

Yeah that’s prob the best idea. Being up there we are trying to squeeze as much golf as possible but chances are after 3 days of 36 we’ll be exhausted. Thanks guys!

If you have connections Eugene CC is one of the top courses in the state, since you will be right there.....of course right behind the Bandon tracks  😃

EDIT:  IGNORE I just saw you noted your shipping your clubs back, I read that wrong...MB

So one of my guys in my group found a 7am tee time at coos golf club so we booked that - so we have something but I like the lazy morning / playing preserve idea.

can’t wait for the weekend.

Coos Golf Club is the course I grew up on for 15 years and was my high school's golf course, you should play it and let me know what you think 🙂

It's no Bandon but it's a really special little track and the new ownership has made it even better. Coastal wetlands, some uniquely interesting holes

Couple of my favorite holes out there

We’ll be staying one night in Bandon - any recommendation for food / bar. Hear the fish and chips from the Bandon fish market is good but figured I’d ask the experts on here.

or if there is a good place to stop and grab something to eat driving down from Eugene.

Bandon Fish Market and Tony's Crab Shack both excellent if you're looking for an early-ish seafood dinner. One of the top 5 meals I've ever had in my life was when I was a kid was the lobster roll at Bandon Fish Market. It's not a stable menu item definitely a rare seasonal thing but I remember it like it was yesterday and I had it probably 15 years ago at this point

If you're gonna be looking to eat later at night, I can't recommend The Broken Anchor enough. It's a little bar/tavern kind of thing but both my buddy and I had some unreasonably good food there on our last weekend trip.

Also if you're playing that day, the food at any of the restaurants on the resort is top tier. The Forge gave me easily one of the best meals I've ever had -- certainly more expensive than a hole in the wall place in Bandon though

On the way down, Sharkbite Cafe' in Coos Bay is stellar, and the only reason to stop in that town (sorry rooski!)

There's a reason I moved away 😂 Was a fine place to grow up but I would only ever recommend visiting Coos Bay for about 30-45 minutes then go somewhere else.

Couple hidden gems there as far as food goes though. Yeong's Place is one of the best burgers on the west coast hands down

Thanks guys. We fly into Eugene tomorrow and staying the night in Bandon. We get in late so no golf, and just planning to hang out in town. Sucks about the fish market closing early but it Broken Anchor it is.

I had the Broken Anchor Burger with their dirty fries and shared some reuben eggrolls as a starter and couldn't have been happier.

My buddy had the Fish and Chips and it was also great
