Random story, I was a single and was paired up with 3 guys and they started telling stories about their 1st trip. Well they had a forecaddie who would just kind of chuckle and amuse them. Well a couple holes in (#4 on Pac) one guy says to the other guy, “returning to the scene of the crime.”  Long story short, 1st round there and they were running late and didn’t get a room yet (this was their previous trip). One of the guys was all frazzled and had his keys, phone, wallet, etc in his bag in his push cart. Well I guess they get to the tee box on 4 and he forgets to set the brake on his Clic Gear, wind gust and away it goes, right over the cliff. Caddie looks at them and mouth drops. So after the push cart goes over the cliff his buddies convince him to go over after it. I guess he gets shredded by the gorse and no luck. So they had to call course maintenance and the have some wench thing and a guy comes in a full haz mat suit. Later that night (after a couple beers) they convince the guy that went over the cliff to go in the hot tub to help heal all the gouges from the gorse. So after the story the caddie looks at the guys and goes “that was you? You have no idea how famous you are and every caddie tells that story.”

Well, bittersweet Bandon cancellation for me.  Just had to bow out of a Memorial day weekend buddies trip for a bunch of 30 year olds.  Wife pregnant with our first, due mid May.  Wife said I only needed a 3 week window on either side and I could go, but sometimes the stars don't align.  Maybe one of the few valid reasons to back out of a Bandon trip!  It would have been my 4th trip, and everyone else's first so I was enjoying setting it all up and being there for everyone's first time.  Sounds like the show will still go on, but it will be painful when I am home changing diapers and seeing photos of the group, especially that time of year when the days are at their longest.

 

That said, my dad and I had booked a trip out for a month from now right before Christmas.  Convinced him to go from his Vail ski trip to Bandon...where I will meet him there.  Was going to only be a 2 nighter, but I just called and they had single room available so I am heading out early for a couple nights.  I'll have to drive back to Eugene to pick him up, but absolutely worth it.

That is certainly on the very small list of reasons to cancel / postpone a trip to BD - congrats man!!

17th I’m playing Bandon @ 10:50, 18th Trails @ 11:50.  Sunday no golf since I’ll be running back to Eugene.  20th is morning @ Pac, afternoon Trails.  21st morning on Bandon, afternoon @ Old Mac.

 

Only anticipating getting in 9 in the afternoon on that Monday/Tuesday.  Playing Trails solo is my personal nirvana so I’ll be locked in for that on Friday, but considering subbing out Bandon on Saturday for Old Mac.  Oddly enough this will be my 4th trip out and I’ve never played all 18 on Old Mac.  I can’t get enough of BD and Trails.  
 

Theres a tournament on Trails in the morning of the 17th, no clue what that is all about.

Solid schedule, especially if you set it up last minute. I'm the same away about BD and BT, got them twice during my trip. Ending the trip with a sunset (hopefully) round at BD. I'll be there with a big group and can't wait - added a couple nights extra so I could get a full week on property.

 

17th BD > 18th OM > 19th PD / Preserve > 20th SR > 21st BT / PD > 22nd BT / BD

 

Interesting to know about the Trails tournament on the 17th; if I remember right, Sheep or Pac was closed a couple days before Xmas for maintenance, but that's all I've heard so far.

 

Enjoy man, I'm sure we'll cross paths at some point!

I want to say the lines are open from 8AM to 8PM PST.  That could be wrong, but I recall having a conversation with someone at 5pm PST thinking their day must be about over, and they informed me they are there much later.

I've called as early as 8AM CST (6AM PST) before and someone has picked up.

 

I like to think the folks at BD Reservations are magical entities that are always available 😅 special group and system they've got there.

So I just returned from my first trip to the adult golfer's version of Disneyland.  I am still pinching myself, making sure it actually happened.  To steal a line from a former work colleague after an experience of a lifetime, "I am jealous of myself!".

 

My expectations were very high after reading all of the posts on this thread, and watching all of the No Laying Up & Golfaholics videos.  I was not disappointed.  From those at reception and check out, and everyone in between (restaurant service staff, shuttle drivers, cleaning staff, pro shop staff, grounds crew that we talked to, caddies, starters, marshals, and whoever else I missed), service is 1st, 2nd, and 3rd on the to do list.  They are truly amazing. 

 

And the golf?  Wow!  Big time WOW!  We played Preserve and Sheep Ranch on the first day, Pac Dunes the second day, 36 at Trails on Thanksgiving Thursday, 35-1/2 at Bandon Dunes on Friday (Played the 16th in a misty dark fog after the sun set at the end of our second round.  We found all of our tee shots, and finished the hole, and what we thought at the time was our round.  While walking back to the clubhouse along the 17th hole, my caddie asked us if we have heard of the Keiser tee on 17.  None of had, or if I had, I forgot about it.  It appears that there is an unmarked but maintained tee box about 155-165 yards from the 17th green, hitting over the ravine to the 17th green.  Supposedly, Mr. Keiser thinks the hole is a better par 3 than a par 4.  Three of us were willing to hit from there, so back we trudged.  In total darkness, hitting a 165 yard shot into what one might describe as the abyss, one of us found the green, one was on the front fringe, and one was in the right rough.  All three of us made par in the darkness.  It might have been the unexpected highlight of the week) and we closed out the week with 18 at Old Mac on Saturday before hitting the road.

 

The trip reports in this thread describe the holes and the courses well enough, so I won't go into those details.  None of us played to our caliber (playing at sea level and playing on very tight lies that we are not accustomed to contributed to our higher than normal scores) but all of us had a great time and we are starting to plan for our return in 24 months (if I can get through on Wednesday morning 🤞).

 

My only regret is forgetting to look for @Edaw68 who was on the box immediately after our group on Friday morning.  D'oh!

 

I do have a small request from anyone going to Bandon in the next few days if there is anyone on here going.  The request does not require any financial cost.  It only requires a cell phone with a camera, and a few seconds of spare time if you go to the practice area.  Please DM me if you are willing and able to help me out.

Yes, a great first three days... steady but not bad rain on Friday morning's round, then fog for the afternoon round.  Very little noticeable wind for first four days, but 2 club wind on Old Mac on Saturday.

Anyone have any recommendations for lodging or food/drink in Florence?  I am (unfortunately) flying into Portland next month for my trip, thinking I'll cut over to Lincoln City and then south along the ocean since I've got time to kill.  Florence appears to be my desired stopping location for the night.

The Old Town Inn is perfectly fine and located well for walking a couple blocks to the restaurants and bars of downtown.

Little Brown Hen Cafe for breakfast - their thick/crispy bacon is awesome - and a Dutch Bros for the road and you're at the resort 1hr 20min later.

River House Inn and Bridgewater for dinner, and I'll second the rec for Little Brown Hen for breakfast.

 

An alternative is to stop at Luna Sea in Yachats (20 min north of Florence) on the way down from Lincoln City.  Some of the best seafood on the central coast.  Drift Inn is also really good.  Yachats is kind of a tiny foodie mecca on the coast.

I was on hold from 7am Mountain time until 9am when my call was dropped right at the 2 hour mark.  I called back in right away at 9am mountain time and was on hold for exactly another two hours when the call was dropped again at the 2 hour mark.  So frustrating....  

 

I don't mind waiting on hold, but having two calls dropped at exactly two hours is so not Bandon-esque....

i'm on my 3rd drop call my man.  Trying to lock up 16 man ryder cup.  I got 8 man locked up in april of 2023 but now we got 8 more folks who want to jump in.

Interesting, guess they never bumped up against that before, with call demand vs agent availability.

Worth mentioning when/if you do get through, they can hopefully fix that on the fly.
