Oban CT-100 tip to first step measurement

hello Golfwrx,

In desperate need of help. I picked up a pulled set of Oban CT-100 shafts off the bay. Was advertised as 5-AW and playing at standard length. However, when installing, these come out longer. So I'm thinking this is a 4-PW set.

 

Unfortunately, because they were cut to playing length, I have nothing on the butt end that can be used to identify them.

 

Is there anyone here that can provide the tip to first step measurement so that I can identify these shafts?

I think I may have figured this one out but looking for the experts here to confirm.

 

So I noticed the tip to first step on the shortest two shafts are different. This leads me to believe that it is in fact 4-PW. Reason being, if this was 5-GW, the PW and GW would have the same tip to first step measurement.

 

Does that make sense?

Even when cut to playing length, they should still have the silver label that shows the discrete length. 40.0, 39.5, 39.0, etc. If those aren't there, you are kind of guessing. And Oban shafts are hard/soft stepped to determine flex. Did they advertise a certain flex? Stiff, stiff plus, x minus, etc?

Seller told me they frequency out at R+ which is what I needed. Unfortunately, see remnants of the silver label but literally only one digit shows.

But interesting, does that chart mean that these shafts are only made stiff flex and then soft stepped hard stepped to get to desired flex?

They are just made in discrete lengths and then hard/soft stepped to flex. If you have just one digit showing (hopefully the first digit), you might still be able to tell. Line them up longest to shortest and find out which one is the 40.0 shaft. And then use the chart from there.

So here is what I have. Longest on top. You can see the last digit is a 0 so likely the 4 iron shaft. Seller tells me this set 5-GW set frequencied at R+ but that doesn’t work since to ge to R+, the 4 iron shaft would need to go into the 6 iron head. 5 iron head would have been stiff-

The longest one could be the 41.0 so that would be the 4 iron in the Reg +. That would make sense too.

Agreed. Either the longest shaft is either 41 or 40.

The pic is for the CT115, lengths are diff for CT100, 5 iron for R+ would be 39

Ah ha! That CT 100 chart is super helpful as I assumed both were the same.

 

So it looks like the longest shaft I have was a 39” based on seller telling me it was installed in 5-AW set at R+

I should have also added a CT100 39” shaft measures 10 5/16” tip to 1st step

Ah, now I’m even more confused.

 

Based on the picture, 10 5/16” would be the 5th shaft down from the top.

 

I think I’m going to just return these shafts.
