What's your bunker play setup?

Recommended Posts

Great question, in my opinion, and is the reason I don't "simplify" my wedges. I seem to encounter two types of sand, with relatively little predictability as to which I'll encounter on any given day: 1) hardpan with a thin dusting of sand on top or 2) deep, fluffy stuff that has little "substance". For the first case, I use a 60/8 and for the second, a 56/14.

If I get lucky and end up in a bunker with decently dense sand of decent depth, then either club would work for me, but I rarely get so lucky.

I use a Callaway 64 degree Sure Out. It works.

O.g. eye 2 S for everything greenside.

Bunkers? Who hits into bunkers?

Pm grind 58 for pretty much everything out of the sand green side. Just open it up if I need to get the ball up quick.

I tend to use my 54*/8 M for most bunker shots, open the face to much more loft and chunk and run or hit hard through for spinny ones. I adjust the face depending on the lie and thickness of sand. I play Links in Scotland and Parkland in Texas.

I have had the odd one recently with my 60*/8 M where the pot bunker face was very steep and close but I find you can manipulate the 54* very easily so very rare do this.

I use my Ping Glide 2.0 58* TS mostly out of the bunkers and any high shots or shots I need to stop quickly around the green. For chip shots and longer shots that may require some run out I use my 54* SS Glide 2.0. So basically if the shot is going high 58* if it’s going low 54*

60* TS for most stock shots. Longer shots or really soft sand I’ll go to my 55* WS.

56 PING ES grind. If sand is firm I keep it square or slight open to keep bounce low. Fluffier sand I can open slightly or open more to get more bounce.

Second this. Freaky how good my Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth 56* ES is out of bunkers; just makes it so easy. I am curious what the shape of the Eye Soul does to make it so effective with just 8* bounce. Makes no sense to me.

Green side, 60.08, it has a nice combination of not too much bounce but a bit of width on the sole.

Mizzy s18 53/11* and TM Hi Toe 60* depending on if i need it to run out or get up and stop. Its not a strong part of my game but biggest thing i do is look at the situation wheres the pin short side at the back look at the lie make a decision and then commit to it , would rather commit and get out the sand and have chance at saving score than fluffing it and taking two to get out !

54.12 for longer bunker shots or if I want to hit a chunk and roll. 60.ATV if it's more hard pan or I need to get it up quick and land it soft.
