I hang around and play golf with a bunch of guys from Upstate NY. They are as big of rednecks as I am. They will tell you in a minute no one from NY State claims NYC

Naah--- I can tell you from my over the road trucking days if you are from down South they do not like you in either one of those cities---- But then what is the first thing they do when they retire? Move down South especially in the Myrtle Beach Grand Strand area of SC.

Everyone I have ever met from NY state makes it a point to say the exact same thing--- Once saw a tourist golfer with NY plates had a hand written sign on the back of his car WE are NOT from NY city

Big Stu! Im tellin ya. Myself and several friends were up somewhere "upstate" on the way to visit a buddy at college at Oneonta and we stopped to get gas.

The guy pumping gas was like,

"You from the City?! You come up here to take someone out?"

Im from the burbs myself. Not the sticks but I moved into the city after school. I have no issue telling people where I live. Sometimes I tell people with no clue I live in The Empire State Building and watch their eyes open wide. Lol ; )

Not going to generalize, there are plenty of a-holes everywhere is what I’ve learned. I believe alcohol has a lot to do with it. Never once have I thought about yelling anything rude at a golf tournament I’ve attended. I think WGC events may be a little more strict. Before phones were officially allowed , I can remember witnessing people’s phones being taken by security and being given a number on a piece of paper to get them back after the tournament. Those were the good ole days ?.

But I guess this is where we're at. Promoting violence is okay in response to a dumb comment.

I do find it quite interesting how that suggestion came from an Englishman who wasn't even in New Orleans and had nothing to do with the event. And then Horschel's Twitter feed was flooded with more Brits telling him "good job Billy, let's assault the Yank fans." There seems to be an obvious agenda here.

Yeah, I'll take a pass on reading any more of this cretin's scribblings, but thanks. I'm glad he's on a plane back to Europe or Jupiter FL or wherever.

Sadly, this type of conduct isn't just limited to NY folk or to sporting events. It has become acceptable across most spectrums, and usually expressed of the younger generations.

While skiing this past winter, I was literally flabbergasted by the talk thrown around by people in the lift lines and while heckling skiers from the lift (as they rode back up the hill). Women and children are no deterrent to these individuals - and more than once I pointed out to the perps that their language was unacceptable in the presence of ladies and children.

I attribute it to a lack of respect. These people have very little self respect and therefore have virtually none for others. It's sad, but it's the state of the world in which we live.

A pro complaining about the idiot fans would instantly put a huge bulls eye on the back of that pro. Not worth it.

Yea. But I know what Stu means.

They sell there and buy here and pocket half a million ( or more) and then walk around as if they are king shat of turd mountain. Telling the whole world how dumb we are and how “ we used to do it up there “. Heaven help you if one gets voted to a school board or city council. Literally need an interpreter for meetings. Lol.

That being said. I’m good friends with many people from the north. So generalizations are bad. But ..... it’s a bad day when you get one of the bad apples down here trying to rule the neighborhood.

They come here for more than climate. It’s the cheap taxes , cheap ( relatively ) housing market. Those two things alone can facilitate an early retirement if selling out and moving from north to south. . And that’s fine. Just don’t gripe once you get here. Assimilate or go back. Lol

Example. In the south. A lot , if not most mom and pop businesses , including attorneys , doctors etc don’t like to work past noon on Friday. And may not do much before noon on Monday. Lol. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard “ why are you closed , it’s 330 on Friday “ on my answering machine .... answer is of course “ it’s 330 on Friday “. Lol. We get caught up , and the suns out , we lock up and leave. There’s golf balls need chasing , fish need caught , etc.

But tell me, does South Carolina have a "Hands Free" cell phone law ? No texting while driving law ? And if so, is it a "primary" offense (i.e. a cop CAN stop you for it) " Or is it only a secondary offense where you can only be ticketed for it if a cop stops you for something else and also sees you were on a hand held phone (or texting) ?

Yes sir. And again I’ll say The issue is that the male gender as a whole is being neutered so to speak. That’s why you see this. No backbone on one end to cal these idiots out as it happens and no backbone to teach the young ones coming up on the other end. These poor excuses for men are reproducing and effecting the same attitude on a new wave of men. We are now seeing the results of a generation or two of not teaching boys to respect themselves for what they are , young men, and that different manners are used out behind the barn vs in a public place with ladies and children present. Boys have been taught that their natural aggression and leadership qualities are wrong and to suppress them. What you get is the miserable soul with no purpose and no self respect. No moral compass , and just an unbridled amount of hate for anything that seems to conflict with their good time. In short. They seem to freeze around age 16 .

I’ll give you my honest answer before googling. Lol

I’m not 100% sure. I know we did not as of a couple years ago for sure. I THINK that they passed it recently and that it’s a primary offense.

Seat belt law is a primary offense and is around 10 years old. Curious as to why you ask ?

Quick search says no. You cannot text. But it’s not illegal to hold a phone and talk or use gps. Appears they had a bill trying to go through Jan this year and now it’s dead as of April.

Not surprising. They tried to pass the seatbelt law for 10-15 years and finally got it through with a lie. A lie that said all our insurance rates would drop. They didn’t.

Another fun fact . I have to wear a seat belt in a car. But. You can ride a motorcycle with zero helmet in SC. Lol. How’s that make sense? I’ll tell you. The motorcycle lobby has deep enough pockets to keep it from passing.

When I first decided to ride, over 30 years ago, I read a number of books about it first. I remember reading, about helmets, that anyone dumb enough to ride without one doesn't have anything worth protecting. Personally I did, and still do, believe that.

There was a helmet law passed in Flori-DUH some time back and there was so much bitching about it, you know, about "taking away our rights (to kill ourselves LOL), it was repealed and now no riders has to wear a brain bucket.

IMO opinion, while texting while driving is now against the law in 48(?) states, a ban on using hand held phones isn't even close to 48 states and talking on a hand held phone, while not as dangerous as texting, is certainly in the ballpark. Yet so many states haven't passed the law.

People don't move away from a greenlight because they're talking on their phones. They don't move out of the left lane. They don't realize they've got a green arrow. They change lanes without looking. They tailgate on I-95. ALL of these things and more. And why ? because they're talking on their phones. Ridiculous.

New York passed it almost 20 years ago. NO hand held devices while driving. Period. Since this is a New York bashing thread and those New Yawkers shouldn't tell "us" how to do things [rolleyes], I just wondered what the "Southern Tier" thought about that sort of thing.

And that's ALL I'll say about it.

Boorish crowds are not unique to New York. As a former San Diego Chargers season ticket holder, every year I would sell my Raiders game tickets as their "fans" made the game unenjoyable. I also stopped going to Dodgers games because the stadium became a battlefield. Trying to get out of the parking lot was a high-risk occupation. I don't think alcohol consumption is the only factor, but when you start out with a moron who is predisposed to do stupid things adding alcohol to the equation guarantees what we are witnessing today. I haven't been to a live professional sporting event in 10 years. I just keep buying larger UHD TV's.

Lies about free college education for all also got lotteries in some states that would have otherwise been a hard sell for many more years. Not 100% sure but something tells me that free college for all has given way to beauracrats salaries and of course handsome salaries for all their staff.

Black to the Bethpage crowd behavior thread I unlike others on here don't differentiate. They are all dam'n yankees to me and for at least the last 30 years have a propensity to leave the places they and their families have soiled up/corrupted with their ideologies expecting different outcomes in the warmer climate (like climate has anything to do with it)

This post makes me lean towards believing the NYer stereotype even more.

Lol.

I’m not in the mood nor do I think you are trying to argue about it. So I won’t.

We too had a helmet law. And it was repealed some 20 years ago.

I tell you. For me it’s a fence issue. Until I had the responsibility of a kid , I was firmly planted on the side of personal liberty protection. But now I like the idea of him having to wear a seatbelt and him not getting hit by an idiot with a phone . I don’t value my own safety that way. I’m ok with survival of the fittest when talking about just me. But when it impacts my loved ones my opinion changes. Right or wrong that’s my internal struggle with laws like that.

It boils down to prosecution of crimes caused by cell phones vs trying to prevent . To do so ,some personal freedom is lost. Always a slippery slope.

My least fav is the seatbelt law. I detest it because it’s truly just a “ probable cause “ excuse. I have a lot of police friends. But I also have a deep mistrust for cops in general because of my upbringing and the harassment I’ve endured because of my outlaw family reputation. I’m as square as can be. Always have been. But I’ve been stopped for no reason and searched 5 times in my life in my own home town. Once involving a k9 and them ripping a cars interior apart . Not once arrested for anything. I’ve literally never done a drug in my life. But hey , serve and protect, right ? Lmao. So when they enact laws to give the boys more lateral movement. I usually bristle up.

And to my above point. Those boys who aren’t being taught respect and manners. They are becoming cops too. Evidence of that speaks for itself on the news daily.

Edit. Please nobody else respond to this to argue. This was just me and nsx. I just answered his question. Not a political motivated post at all. Just explaining my thoughts on the greater point of the OPs post about the poor behavior at bethpage.

I've read all of the interviews and no one has a negative thing to say. Odd isn't it? Although Spieth credited them with helping him sink a birdie putt on 8:

I think they feel it isn't best to urinate into a crowd of of people in hopes of hitting just one.

Despite being perfectly justified........

I guess my point is that "Southerners" stereotyping "New Yorkers" based on limited contact with them and some yahoos yelling at golf tournaments is about as accurate, or fair, as "New Yorkers" stereotyping all "Southerners" as "rednecks". ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

Yea. I’d say both are wrong. And sometimes both Are correct if I’m being honest.

Like I said. I have a couple good pals from up north. One is as NYC as can be. And he’s an acquired Taste. But once you see through the “ tough , know it all “ exterior. You see there’s a nice guy in there. lol but it takes several years. They have a different idea of what polite is compared to me.

The biggest disconnect I’ve had with my New York pals ..... they tend to mistake kindness , or laid back attitudes as weakness , or as signs of ignorance. Nothing good be further from the truth.

I am surprised they were making rude comments to Phil. Was under the impression they loved him based on 2002 and 2009 events at Bethpage. Maybe just a few bad apples in there creating a wrong impression.

Ryder Cup at Bethpage will be insane. I am not jealous of the Euro guys having to walk into that chaos.

Sadly this is America now. Say whatever you want, hate whoever you want, let it all fly like we haven’t had hundreds of years of civil society and actually developed etiquette.

The PGA must develop a policy similar to Augusta and kick anyone out yelling obnoxiously on the spot.

This is oddly coming from a young guy who likes beer and sporting events.

Women and children are no deterrent to these individuals - and more than once I pointed out to the perps that their language was unacceptable in the presence of ladies and children.

In short. They seem to freeze around age 16 .

>

isn't "natural aggression" why they're acting out in the first place? ...

it's actually a decent discussion to be had if had correctly ... don't see anything wrong with it ...
