  • 2 weeks later...

Putters are obviously very personal. I've really enjoyed Edel putters and a few others over the years. There is no doubt confidence in what you look it and how you aim and line it up is very important, while being able to put your own consistent stroke on it hitting the center of putter face. All that said 3 rounds in, this Axis 1 Rose putter is likely the easiest putter I've had in getting a consistent stroke on the ball with. It feels good, lines up well for me and controlling speed is great. Hard to for me to think this technology, design whatever you want to call it doesn't make a difference. Lots of good putters out there. This is one of them for certain in my book.

I tried it at a PGA superstore last week when they first got them in. Really wanted to like it because I love the technology behind it. Much like the Directed Force putter which is my gamer. The Rose just did not feel balanced or solid like the DF. I was disappointed with it but guess I just saved $450.

The Axis 1 Tour-B feels so much better.

I also tried this at PGA Superstore and really liked the putter. It did feel a bit lighter than what I expected it would though. I thought my off-center hits almost geared back to the hole and as advertised, I didn't feel the face fly open or close shut when hits came off the toe or heel. I'd have to hit more - probably hit about 10-15 putts. I'll go back to try again later. Would be interesting to see how this performed on the course.

I recently purchased this putter directly from Axis golf website. IMO, it's a standard Axis putter with a PLASTIC flange bolted on. It is a "light" putter with an overall static weight of 540 grams stock. With that being said, it's a very nice feeling putter with great balance and roll. I had to heavily modify the putter to get it to where I liked, but I think it will be my new gamer.

The mistake Axis is making is the price point. If they want to make a dent in the market they can't compete at $450 especially not having any other players or doing any sort of main stream marketing.

I agree. Axis has been around maybe 3-4 years? Still not really well known. Not available at most golf stores. Rose using it helps a lot.

That being said, I got fitted and bought the Directed Force putter at $400. They were a new company then but I loved it from the start.

Does not mean I stopped looking around.

Nothing in your post is accurate. Another Rose model user finished 6th at the PGA Championship, was 2nd in putting for the week, and has moved up over 50 spots in strokes gained putting since the switch.

I'm 100% correct because no one knows who the other player is and if you ask 99.9% of the golfing world what an "axis putter" is they will shrug their shoulders and say I don't know. Then if you drop the bomb that it's $450 they will laugh. On a side note I know you work for Axis so i get your bias ;-)

Some things are accurate. They are too expensive. Why would anyone other than a WRXer spend $450 USD on a putter that looks like it came out of an infomercial?

The Rose model actually doesnt look too bad, but some of the others really do. The price alone is a huge deterrent IMO.

The "other" player was in the weekly photos I took from the US Open. Luke List has been using the putter and here's a couple photos of him at the US Open. Also, PGA Super Stores aren't having any problems selling thru their Axis 1 putters. 99.9% of the golfing world might not know what a Burns or a Piretti putter is either and would laugh at what they cost.

Bettinardi is a well-known name in golf and does well because they have putters at different price points. 8 out of 10 players at my club would know Bettinardi, maybe 1 out of 10 would know Axis.

Greg, if 10 players walk into PGA Superstore with $450 to spend on a putter, how many of those 10 walks out with a Scotty and leave with $50 in their pocket? compared to an Axis and walk out with an empty wallet? I've rolled Axis putters before and like the tech but i'm not even considering it at $450. Hopefully in time volume can help them get that price point down.

And yet I didn't mention Bettnardi but rather used Burns or Piretti as my example of other putter lines that would not be known by 99.9% of the golfing world that you referenced.

People can complain about the Axis 1 looks and pricing but someone seems to be buying them and I'm sure that's all that matters to Axis 1 and their retailers.

But what happens when the 2 or 3 people in each community who know about Axis 1 buy the putters? Is there anyone left to buy the next batch? How do they get the general public to buy in? The current aesthetics and price are not the

way to appeal to the masses.

Look at Toulon or Evnroll. Make a nice looking stick, appeal to the massess, and your company will grow from something small.

If you go to the PGA Tour Superstore website. Then click on putters. Then search by bestsellers. Where does the Rose model come up? #3 out of 528.

I think thats called marketing. Right beside it says "new" and it has 0 reviews. Thats not a ranking list, its a great advertisement platform though!

Listen...i have no reason to argue about this putter but the facts are that i've never seen one in person, it doesnr come in lefty, it costs more than a scotty, and when Rose ditches it, there is a good chance they will flood the secondary market

So PGATSS is going to "Market" Axis1 to the 2-3 people in each community that know about Axis1 (your words) ? Interesting marketing idea.

Doubtful Rose is "ditching" something he helped design and is ranked in the top 5 in EVERY major putting category in.
