Because Monte is longer than many in the field I think he has the advantage of using long irons or hybrids off the tee. I have a friend that works with a Champions Tour player and he told me it's all about the wedge game on the senior tour. Monte can't get into the mindset of "I'm a former LD champion and I'm going to overpower the course". Best of luck Monte.

I have a feeling Monte will smartly use his distance advantage by hitting driver as much as possible rather than laying back with the rest of the players...

There’s some holes that dictate less than driver, but when possible, driver is coming out. Especially on the Par 5’s, Monte can take advantage of his length and have much less club into these greens. They’re very small, some of them tiny. It’s a greater advantage to have wedge in hand on a second shot than 7 or 6 iron.

Monte will have less club in his hand than all of the field. The course is playing somewhat soft (fairways at least) so his length will be even more of an asset. His wedge game is excellent, especially short game wise, so he’ll be able to capitalize. The USGA has a lot of options with the setup, changing tee boxes etc, and there’s lots of brutal pin positions possible.

We’ve seen the course, we’ve formulated a game plan. All that’s left is to have some fun and just play golf.

Scroll through and you’ll recognize a few of these players.

Pay particular attention the the suave badass in picture 17.

They say the camera adds 10 pounds. I obviously have 4 cameras pointed at me.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

The problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.

It’s about reverse-psychology. Monte knows that the field knows that he hits it further than they do. Rather then hitting driver all over the place Monte will not hit driver at all thereby causing utter confusion among the players. Instead of focusing on their own game, Langer et al. will be saying “Monte isn’t hitting the boom stick? What’s going on with that?” No one will understand what’s going on (and this is key) except for Monte. While all others are mentally breaking down Monte will carry out this plan with ruthlessness we haven’t seen since Louis the Great.

It’s a good plan and seems to make a lot of sense.

Like punting on first down or intentionally walking the first 2 guys to try and get the 3rd to hit into a triple play. Genius.

What kinda speed are you able to bring to the course with a relative sense of reliability Monte (or Scnee for Monte...lol)? Assuming a standard 45" driver length or thereabouts? Curious what % effort you put into it knowing how high your top-end speed is when doing long drive stuff. Will your "on course" speed be > than 120 mph?

Monte with the QB locker - a quote from Lou Holtz (it pains me but Notre Dame football and all things Notre Dame and St. Mary's College are at the center of my wife's entire family, lol):

"If Tiger Woods had played football, he would have been a quarterback." Lou Holtz

And Chris, if it gets a little hot and humid:

"No one has ever drowned in sweat." Lou Holtz

I prefer the ultimate psychologist's excellent take on "course management":

"We'll take what the other team gives us. We'll scratch where it itches." Hayden Fry

Go get 'em!

My favorite football coach of any team opposing Wisconsin or Green Bay! Any coach who paints the visitors locker room pink is all right in my book!

I generally get out and play this course a few times a season, and I will say the fairways are pretty generous, but the fescue, even during normal times, can get pretty tall. Lot of bunkers on the course too. It is actually my favorite course in the area to play.

Again Monte, good luck, and I hope you are around for Saturday! If you are, I'll yell "get in the hole" just for you. Joking...

I'm not sure if it's the cameras or the horizontal striped shirt. Best of luck Monte, I know you can do it. I'm pulling for a Monte/Jimenez pairing on the weekend because that would just be awesome. The DVR is already set to record. Best of luck to you as well Chris.
