Whats up with 15 at Riverside? Some great holes out there and its in decent shape but that course has some squeeze job holes on it....Anyone else playing out there? Also, Golf Club of Dallas condition update?

glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks that hole is horrible. And I'm not one to complain about course design but there's only one (really difficult) shot to play off that tee. Also I'm a little bitter...was sitting 5 over going into that hole and walked away with a triple.

I play there about once a week and they were super baked out and fast 3 weeks ago. The following week they had watered them (maybe it rained?) and they were fast but receptive. It seems now we are into those late summer TX conditions where munis turn into Chambers Bay 2015.

The Sunday pins at Waterchase were beastly! Course is in great shape.

Couple updates from last week:

Trails of Frisco, punched maybe  2 weeks ago and still bumpy but fairways good, and bunkers still dirt

Ridglea CC, fairways verticut a week ago and greens are good just a tad slow

Grapevine Muni, all good and greens are nice and soft and true

Cedar Crest, still fantastic and greens are hard and fast

All courses where played either July or August

Sherill Park (Richardson Texas): Great city course. Course 2 is a little shorter and more dated but still a good layout with good water holes. Course 1 was renovated a few years ago with new everything along with tons of new trees being planted and it's maturing great. Like the houses on the course too, lots of nice custom built late 70s and 80s houses.

There head pro (Ronny Glaton) just won PGA professional of the year which is impressive award. They gave the award to him for all the work he's done at Sherrill Park over the years and he was supposedly a big contributor to convincing the PGA to move the HQ to Frisco. The last time someone from North Texas won the award was 1996, Randy Smith of Royal Oaks won the award when he was the head pro (crazy enough he's still at Royal Oaks, he runs his own teaching academy that's very highly sought after)

Duck Creek (Garland): This one is kinda strange. It was originally suppose to be a master planned community called Oakridge and was previously a country club with course, pool, and tennis courts. The builders failed during the original construction of the neighbhorhood, it was originally suppose to be nothing but custom built 2500+ square foot houses but only portions of the neighbhorhood got that. Instead it's majority small one story zero lot houses so the demographics of the neighbhorhood meant the country club failed. It sold multiple times as a country club before shutting down around 2010 and then it re-opening in 2014 as a low cost public course. Love the layout of the course but it's in awful shape, reminds me of Los Rios the last few years it was open. It's stuck in no mans land because there isn't enough money in that area to make it a country club and as a low income daily fee course it will never have the budget to sustain high volume high traffic maintence.

Watters Creek (Plano/Allen border): I drive by this course often on 75 and was always blown away at how the driving range despite having zero shade stays emerald green even during the peak of summer. Loved the practice area and short course. Traditions course I was able to play and it was in fairly solid condition, especially for the price. Good combination of everything at the facility.

Pecan Hollow (East Plano): Nearly perfect. Great practice area, no houses on the course (aka quite) and some of the best greens i've ever played on.

Brookhaven (Farmers Branch): Basically on par with watters creek, conditions at Pecan Hollow and Sherrill park where better. You can tell this is an aging course that Clubcorp is stringing along. Luckily with 3 courses, historic clubhouse, and a renovated gym most of the members i'm sure find it overall a good value even though it's nothing great.

Canyon Creek (Richardson): Talk about a gigantic disappointment. For those that don't know this area is a mostly 60s/early 70s greenbelt neighbhorhood near UT Dallas college that is considered one of the top 5 best neighbhorhoods in all of Dallas County. Award winning elementary school, well built custom 60s houses on big lots, tree lined streets, natural elevation, endless supply of parks, creeks, rivers, railroad tracks. A borderline flawless neighbhorhood but the course itself is living off the name of the neighbhorhood. Only one course that's very medicore (course 2 at sherrill park which is the budget of the 2 courses is a better course), no fitness center, literally the smallest practice facility I have ever seen at ANY golf course.

Prestonwood (Dallas): Small practice facility but amazing course. The only tier 2 clubcorp course i've played that's actually a legitimate country club.

(*Drumroll) The Grand finale

Bent Tree (Far North Dallas): Words can't even describe it. Arguably the prettiest neighborhood I have ever seen. Custom built late 70s and 80s houses which to me where the last good era of custom houses (90s custom houses is when it became the brown/red brick cookie cutter builds and 2000 onwards has too much of the fake wannabe LA vibe). Very secluded, a no light turn in from Preston road or a small turn in off the service road of the tollway. The portion of the neighborhood closer to Preston is Preston Trail, very exclusive male only golf club and the houses get old preston hollow big (8000+ Square feet)

The fairways where so perfect that I was trying not to take signficant divots. Hole 15 was my favorite, I liked how you can catch a glimpse of the adjacent course Preston Trail right before you get to the green. When it comes time to join a waitlist Bent Tree and Northwood are easily my 2 top choices

Played Rockwood on Sunday. Greens were firm and fast. They also had the pins in some brutal locations. Whats up with the public courses choosing Sunday pins like we are playing in PGA tournaments haha

I don't know if it is just me, but I play almost everywhere in DFW to include most Club Corp courses, and I have not seen one course with immaculate conditions this year. I am really disappointed, because I had guys travel from out of town to visit after I was raving at all of the courses we have here and how great they are. Needless to say I shoved my foot in my mouth. I even had them on Tier 1 Club Corp courses and they were shocked. All guys from NY.

What the heck is going on in DFW? Why cant anyone figure out how to water and maintain the courses here?

how do you like ClubCorp? Seems to get a bad rep here but to a prospective member like myself it looks pretty inciting. I am looking at Trophy Club.

I just booked a tee time at Cedar Crest for next Sunday.  Should i be looking for somewhere else to play or stick it out?  Did they full out punch or verdicut them?

Not sure what verdicut is but I played 9 there on thursday and I didn’t miss a putt that wasn’t my fault. You’ll enjoy. Lemme know what you think.

Tenison highlands greens were punched recently. Played 9 on Thursday and they are slow and bumpy. Also the bunkers were unplayable. Not sure if they are under repair. The guy charged me $40 (full 18) for a 5:48 tee time and then the club house was closed when we came for our rain check on the back. Really disappointing because I like that course but the price for those conditions is ridiculous.

Waterchase is very pure right now.  Played in 3:35 today as a 4 some which was another bonus.

How about those pins Sunday?  Think the greens keeper woke up in a bad mood.  Had two different 3-jacks from 6 feet or less.  Don't be on the wrong side...

Played Tierra Verde on Friday and Waterchase on Sunday.  My gosh... Both are in extremely good shape.   If TV could get WC's greens, I'd probably never play anywhere else...
