How about those pins Sunday?  Think the greens keeper woke up in a bad mood.  Had two different 3-jacks from 6 feet or less.  Don't be on the wrong side...

Played Tierra Verde on Friday and Waterchase on Sunday.  My gosh... Both are in extremely good shape.   If TV could get WC's greens, I'd probably never play anywhere else...

Right!!  They were like that a couple of weeks ago as well.  Number 16 was just not fair and we had 2 guys putt if off the green from about 15 ft.

I need to get to TV i have never played it but always hear good things.

Waterchase loves to do that on Sunday’s. I played on 8/16 and the greens ate my lunch.

Split Rail in Aledo still the greatest public golf value in the metroplex. Every Sunday it’s exceptional

Yep.  When I'm in a routine and playing regularly, I'm out there 2-3 times a week.  Usually weekday twilight though.  $35 for that course is an absolute STEAL.

My other DFW favorites are Texas Star and Bridlewood.  I haven't been out to Bridlewood in awhile, but when I got serious about golf 15-20 years ago, I used to play out there every week.  The fairways used to be so good it was like hitting off of a mat.  Not soft/mushy, but spongey feeling - like the ball was launching off of a trampoline.  The spin you could get was ridiculous.

Reminds me of when I was a member at Tanglewood on Texoma back in the 80's. Several times a year, they would put the pins in the toughest spots on the green on all 18 holes. Would tell us in advance so we always knew. Lots of holes where you did good if you 3 putted. And some times 4 putts were good. It was actually kind of fun.

good timing to visit this thread - November 6,7,8 there is a few of us coming up from Houston and Austin to golf; is there any of these that would be hard to get tee times for 8 players?

Rockwood is in good shape and a fun track. Waterchase has been the best one I’ve played this year. Southern Oaks is in good shape as well.

I can’t put my finger on it but I don’t love Fossil Creek. But it’s also in good shape right now.

Moved to Dallas from NJ in January. Tried a bunch in the area I see showing up here. I have played as a single usually before 8:30am and I have always been paired with nice people. My #1 is Waterchase, course is always in great shape, I find the layout is really enjoyable mix of holes. #2 Tangle Ridge, some elevation changes here are interesting. Greens roll well.

Hawks Creek out in Ft Worth was a pretty solid course but I thought being next to the air force base is really cool.

Pecan Hollow is mentioned here. It is in nice shape but I find the course uninteresting. Still would play.

Funny I see #10 at Coyote Ridge mentioned. Stupidest hole I have ever played. Course priced higher than it should be, but its worth replaying.

Bridlewood was punched and sanded when I played so that soured it a bit, but I would probably try it again.

Grand Oaks and Thorntree are only to be played when desperate.

Some to still play are: Tierra Verde, Texas Star, Cowboys Golf Club (a novelty), Stevens Park.

True story....Sunday at Texas Star was on 13, bottom of the hill just right of the green....POP POP POP POP!!!!!

BULLETS whizzing overhead hitting the tree tops. Pretty sure someone stopped on pipeline and was just firing into space. But still.

which brings me to 20 years ago on the same course, on 2, someone driving west on mossier valley rd between the course and landfill, firing a pistol into the course as he drove by.

great course but I’ve been shot at 2x in 20 years!

Well my friends just cancelled on me for a weekend trip next weekend to Fort Worth.

I want to head to Artisan Friday morning to get 2 wedges reshafted still.

Where would I get on as a single in the afternoon that's decent to play? It will be next Friday Afternoon, will drive back to Houston after.

thank you, the last one seems to be the only one to allow singles booking.

Not much around Artisan so if you want play something on the way back to Houston then I would say Tierra Verde over the other 3 mentioned.  I would also throw out Rockwood (in Ft Worth) or Waterchase (just East of FT Worth).

thanks. the Waterchase one allows bookings of singles. Tierra Verde and Rockwood don't.

Annoying you can't book singles!

Definitely going to Artisan now after chatting to Jamie so right now - Waterchase or Fossil Creek seem to be the options.
