Old American will be limited because of the lpga event.

frisco lakes and trails of frisco both affordable and good francs in the same area.

Last time i went by OA it looked terrible and i was shocked.  You can't even get a tee time right now which has me thinking they might have shut it down to get it back in shape for the tournament.  I will try and get back over there to get another look at it.

Both the Trails and Lakes are not in the best shape right now and i would not recommend for an out of town guest.  Where are you staying and we can point you in a better direction.

We are staying by the airport.  I want to play a nice place...It will be 3 of us.  I don't mind driving a bit to play a nice place.

Texas Star or Rangers GC both just south of the airport.  There is always Cowboys as well if you want to pay $200.

Posted before I read your post. Cowboys feed you as well and is worth the experience if your out of town. Rangers just had the Korn Ferry and is a fun course to play if the wind is not howling.

Texas star is great public course.

Played the Golf club at Champions Circle this weekend. The course was in decent enough shape. The front 9 was nice but the greens were slow. The back 9 was ruined by the Big Shots being built. Not the most enjoyable course to play and probably will not make the rotation but the shape was decent and would play it again if I was not able to get on elsewhere.

Rockwood’s greens have quite a few problem areas after the freeze. Hope they fully heal.

Don't recall seeing anything about Sugar Tree, over in Lipan, in this thread but was always curious how good it was. Looks like it would be a pretty fun course to play.

Anyone?

I played out there several times while I lived in Fort Worth and the course was always in really good shape. Overall I really liked the course and think it's worth the drive to check it out. Hopefully the big freeze didn't negatively affect the course too much.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've had 2 different people tell me that Duck Creek in Garland is looking surprisingly good. For those that haven't been it was a straight up hacker course that was borderline los rios level bad

It sold to a new owner last year and their pouring a signficant amount of money into everything (fairways, greens, all new carts, re-done practice area).

Good that there working on the course but the demographic of that area + the difficultly of running a public course with no city backing means it will probably shut down again in a few years since golf courses are huge money pits (the amount of traffic that course would need to turn a profit is like 5x what it currently has)

Played Bridlewood yesterday. Range is beat up, I am not sure why (Looks like they punched the range with really big holes). They must have punched the greens recently as well they were not bumpy but have not been mowed. The  Fairways are in great shape and once they mow the greens the course will be in perfect shape.

Assuming you mean the Four Seasons at Las Colinas...  I played the TPC course a couple weeks ago - just after all the rains in late May/early June subsided.  Course was in spectacular condition - to be expected.  Greens were lightning fast.  I like the layout of the TPC course okay, but if I have a choice I'll always play the Cottonwood course first.  I just like that course better.  Same conditions as the TPC.

Cowboys
We played a few weeks ago, this report seems to be worse.  Then, teeboxes were in        terrible  shape and the greens were less than okay.

Stevens Park
We played Friday course in great shape tee to green.  Greens were little slow they had recently been punched but growing back in.   Couple weeks they should be in great shape.

CrossTimbers, Azle
Great shape tee to green, worth the drive to Azle.

Hawks Creek
Always in great shape, greens were a little slow.

Yes, sorry. I am up staying for the weekend 17,18,19; swinging past Artisan to get my wedges re blasted and pick up my dads ones. Its the Open Championship weekend so I was going to watch that in the mornings but was really wondering if the golf was worth missing an avo by the pool to play and the expense - it does have any prices on the website. Think I will play if I can get the right time and my wife can get a massage at the spa. I will play the TPC just to say I have played it, it will be my last expensive round in Texas before I move back to Scotland.
