I have been afraid to make the trip up there to only be disappointed based on the last trip i made.  Might have to give it a shot next weekend.

I would say don’t as the greens are just too much.

had an 8 ft side hill birdie putt (pin high) middle of the green on the pine valley hole, #13 and not only did it lip out high side,  it tried to stop, but rolled 25feet to the fringe

so I would say don’t go.

my group made our first trip out to Pecan Hollow this weekend after hearing great things. was honestly pretty disappointed… we were 20 minutes delayed starting. when we came up to the first tee box at our tee time, we had 3 groups still ahead of us to tee off and the starter didn’t really have a reason to explain the back up. conditions were fine for a public track. some rough sand spots on a few greens but overall ran pretty true where they were healthy. the round took well over 5 hours, we waited on pretty much every shot. can confidently say we will prioritize playing our usual spots before returning.

They have been that way for the majority of them being open.

Texas star yesterday was the same

I played there maybe 3-4 months ago and it was fine but not last weekend.  Sad to hear about Texas Star as well as i really like that course but slow bumpy greens are a no go for our group.

That is one bad thing if you don't get out early there as they get so much play and a lack of marshals.

Where does your group play regularly?

Played Tour 18 Saturday.  Other than a couple of bad tee boxes the course was in surprisingly great shape.  The greens played like new greens - big bounces and runs even from shots coming straight down.  VERY fast downhill putts.  The sand I got into was good.  The only bunkers I saw that looked questionable were the two church pew bunkers on the course.

Played Bridlewood yesterday.  Greens were a little shaggy and you could tell they had been recently punched, but they putted good.  Course was in great shape.  Still one of my favorite local courses to play.

Just wish both of these courses weren't 40 miles from home...

The green complexes at tour 18 are far too difficult to expect pace of play to be 4 hours. When I played it it was also in great shape.

For anyone, I have 1140 Monday at Old American would love to meet up

I'm probably not nearly the player you guys are but this sounds fun.  Alas, I'll be making my way north from Halifax towards Cabot on Monday 🙂  Hit'em straight.

Steven's Park, Cedar Crest, Tenison

@cjblake09 mentioned these 3 courses in another thread and I got to thinking about how old these courses are.

Steven's Park 1922

Cedar Crest 1923

Tenison 1924

Here is something that amazes me. I'm not totally sure of this so someone may have better information. But according to Avid Golfer, as far as I can tell, the next public course in the Dallas area did not open until 1965. If that is correct, that is amazing.

Am I missing some public courses that may have opened during that time?

Fort Worth muni's Meadowbrook and Rockwood are also from the 1920's

I played Bear Creek (West this past Saturday and East last Thursday). Both are very good! I liked West a bit more, but that's just my opinion.... The location is just near the airport, very convenient for someone who has to catch a flight after playing, or someone with a short stop at DFW...

Probably should have put this in this thread to begin since since Sherman is just up Hwy. 75 a little ways from McKinney.

Played Stone Creek GC up in Sherman last week. Hadn't played it in at least 5-6 years mostly due to not hearing good things about course conditions. However, I was pleasantly surprised.

Fairways were mostly in above average conditions with some thin spots just here and there, the rough was decent but tough to play from, and the greens were actually really good. Like most courses, it can get a little dicey the farther you get off the fairways but the only real negative is that the traps are completely out of play. Got the senior rate of $25 and it was more than worth it.

But here's the thing. This course has really good golf holes with variety, character, and elevation changes. I've played at least a dozen or so public courses in the north DFW area ncluding Cowboys, Heritage Ranch, Watters Creek, Frisco Lakes, Bridlewood, Firewheel, The Bridges, and Sherrill Park. And, from a golf course standpoint, Stone Creek stacks up with any of them. If the owners ever decide to really put money into it, they would have to turn people away. It's that good of course.
