Cobra one length hybrid as a driving iron

I had one and considered keeping it for that reason but I just give up too much distance with it. I hit my 5 iron further than I could hit that 3 hybrid.

That said they are silly straight.

Dang it was that short? I was hoping I could still get descent distance out of it. I hit my 5i 190 so a 190 yard driving iron would be worthless

I was planning to do the same thing. Haven’t purchased yet but on the PGA TSS simulator I was consistently hitting the 21 degree about 220, dead straight. That is what a 3 iron used to be for me, and it is pretty much the same as the 21 degree Rogue hybrid I played last year, except that the Cobra OL is easier to hit straight. My biggest issue is that I don’t know if I want the 19 or 21 - 21 gives more versatility for hitting into a long par 3.

I’m also wondering about shafts. Seems like cutting down a hybrid shaft that short would really effect how it plays. They have the Atmos “one length” shaft that maybe was made for this application but also offer quite a few different aftermarket options. I was thinking the Tensei Pro White, which is only a $42 upcharge, but really wondering how that shaft plays at only 38” or whatever it is.

I went with the speedback 4i and it is very solid. Super easy to hit. Like Ping g25 easy to hit. Just let the ball get in the near vicinity of the club and it wants to go straight. See my sig for details. G luck.

I have the one length 3 hybrid (19 deg) and didn't really get along with it great. At some point it'll get another shot, but I had better success with a one-length King Utility, and more recently the one length Forged Tec 3 iron.

Can you compare the distance you hit the one hybrid vs the one iron and utility

Ping G400 Max 9* Tensei Pro Orange 70TX
Ping G400 3 crossover Alta stiff
Callaway Apex 4-SW recoil 780 stiff
Cleveland cbx 60* recoil stiff

Distance very similar, 220 (deck) - 235 (tee). I found myself rarely using the utility off the deck, which is why I'm testing out the Forged-Tec 3 iron (215-220 deck, 230 off the tee).

Ballflights are very different though. Hybrid was higher and softer, Utility and 3 iron were lower and penetrating. Hybrid had more carry distance and stopping power.

So I got my One Length F9 4i in today and the first thing I notice is this thing must swingweight out around E1. I got it with a $-Taper 120. Maybe the One Length irons are made to play with 90g or less shaft and sw at D1. I didn’t think about that but oh well I play my driver at D5 so it shouldn’t be too bad.

Ok so I played 2 rounds with it in a Mem/Gue last weekend and it was ok. Honestly I don’t think it’s any longer than my F9 5i at the standard length even though it’s 4* stronger. If I played a course that has some really firm fairways where you would get a ton of roll then yes it would be longer. I did find it to be very easy to control although the only shot I could hit with it was a draw. Having that much offset and being that short I found it almost impossible to hit a cut. I’m going to give it a couple more rounds but this might be a failed experiment.

Reviving this old thread. I have a space in my bag that I thought could be filled with a one length hybrid.

I play standard irons and hybrids etc but felt like a lower flying / super forgiving / controllable club could be useful in high wind, under trees in rough and in other situations and have been considering a one length 3 or 4 hybrid. I'd call it my "fairway wedge". Saw someone else use the term and i like it.

Any of you still game yours?

The Cobra F8 One Length Hybrids in 3 & 4 were super draw biased and real short.  The 5 however is a magic trouble club and still in the bag.  I'd call it a 7 hybrid in length.

The 2019 JPX Fli-Hi 4 Hybrid at 19° however is a hammer from the tee.  These are a direct iron replacement hybrid, but at a slightly longer then iron length shaft.  As long as my Srixon U45 3 20° it replaced from the tee with a much lower flight.  From the fairway it's no contest, the Fli-Hi rules.

The new 2021 JPX Fli-Hi Hybrid is out now as well, but they rolled back the lofts a bit, the 4 is now 20°.

Cobra-wise instead of the hybrid, the Utility Black One is a much better club from the tee and really easy to hit from the fairway.  I'd expect the same from the new Utility.

I have a few of the older utility black iron in my shortlist now. Your right about it being better from the tee and for my intended purpose i think this would be a better fit than a hybrid.

I already carry a 39.5" 22 XTD Ti and 39" 26* A12 Pro hybrid as part of my standard gapping and my longest club off the deck is a 41.75" 18* Great Big Bertha . I don't mind that this club will be shorter, what i want is some low flying bullets.

Got an adjustable 4/5 sz one length hybrid and the black one length 4/5 utility on the way. Will put them head to head. I’m guessing I’ll prefer the utility off the tee and the hybrid from the fairway, I do have 2 spaces in my bag but feel they will be too similar. May be with different lofts I can give them both a special purpose in my bag.
Won’t be out of lock down until mid March it’s looking like though. Huff!... no testing for a while

Oh dear. Made a school boy error. In my haste to get a good deal I accidentally bought a 3 utility not a 4 utility. Only realized when it arrived. Thought the 4 would be hard enough... Good luck getting the ball in the air with this! haha.
