New TM p790 irons ???

no worries, I just did a double-take when I read that and had to check it. I suppose maybe in a few years the OM's will be using 26 for their 7 irons, but I hope not

I hope not either that’s why I bent mine already because I don’t really like the specs of the newer irons. If I get the 790’s I

Will be bending them to weaker lofts.

Do I buy these even though the 7 iron will go 190+ carry? I could weaken the lofts a degree but I already hit the ball really high as it is so don't really want to do anything to encourage the ball to go higher. Trying to decide between a full set of P790s or just getting these in the 3 and 4/5 iron and buying P760s 5/6-PW. Anyone else blend these sets? How forgiving are the P760s? I've been playing AP2 for years and 919 Tours the past year and hit them well I just want a little more forgiveness in my irons since I'm only able to play 1 round a week and hit the range 2 other days now.

I was going to blend. I was actually determined to blend...until my fitting. I just hit every P790 perfect in the fitting and just couldnt catch the 760 at all. This is just my story and YMMV, but the P790 just hit too well. The moment I got my clubs, I ended up my changing all the lofts the best I could for gaps without going more that 2deg weak on any club. I have the 5-PW. You can see that the 5i ends up close to a 4i loft, but for me its perfect because my next club is a 3hy at 21, 5w at 18 and 3W at 15. So far its working out perfectly. Still a bit far, but not 7i at 190.

* 6 (26.5 to 28),

* 5 (23.5 to 24)

I might just go the route as well get 5-p bent and then get a hybrid. Very rare do I use my 4 iron at all.

For anyone saying they hit the ball too high, there are shafts out there designed to lower the trajectory.

Lots of people use the 3i as a DI. It's a beast of a club. I'm sure there are many around here with the pro white. @TollBros may have built a few.

I have a 790 4 iron that I might but my Tensei Pro White 90HY shaft in to use as a UDI

I play 919 Tours bent 1 deg strong with X7 and previously used ctaper 130x and hit these all quite high still. Not sure what my ball flight would do with these 790s which is why I'd be really afraid to bend them weaker by any degree.

I’ve used my gen 1 790 3i as the driving iron and love it. I have a modus 105X in it and it works great. I’m def going to pick up the new 3i and try out the TGI 100 in it. I’ve heard great things about the PW 90/100 though too.

Just got back from the store. Sticking with my Ap3’s. Put my 6 iron against 790 7 iron. My 6 is bent to TM 7 specs so it was a fair comparison. Both went pretty much the same distance I hit my 6 170-175 yards. Was hitting the 790 around 174-177 average. The look of the 790 are very nice the only thing I don’t. Like is the top line is thicker then my AP3s. The feel of the 790’s is definitely better but I’m more of a look guy so I could not justify getting the new 790’s and getting rid of my AP3s.

Went and tested the new P790 at my local shop yesterday. Tried the full shaft offerings the shop had. Project X LZ 120 6.0, stock DG S300 VSS, KBS C-Taper Lite, Modus 105/120/130. Came out loving the Project X LZ 120 6.0 with these heads. Really nice ball flight that has decent spin but event better descent angle for stopping on greens with the scoring clubs.

I too wanted them to have a top line like the AP3. Luckily for me the performance and forgiveness of the gen 1's makes up for the thick-ish top line.

I really wanted to get them but I’m also happy with my Ap3 for the performance I get out of them. I guess Ap3 is the perfect iron for me.

I've played the gen 1 790 3i with the TGI100 in it. Just an FYI, it's a lot softer feeling of a shaft than it sounds. I loved the smooth feel but at that weight, it was going left on me more than the stock DG105 stiff that came with it. You may get along better with the 110.

The 2019 P790's are tight, but what I am more interested in is when used 2017 P790 prices will drop.

They will drop within a month or so I say. For the northern states when it starts to get colder less golf for us more sales for the stores.

I’m sure they will especially knowing taylormade they have tons of sets still and will drastically reduce them to sell the new ones.

In Sweden most stores dropped the price about 30-40% this Tuesday.
