Club champion fitting help

Recommended Posts

I recently got fit at club champion and dont agree with the fitting. Need a little help looking at the numbers and seeing what would work.

Little background I have always played x100 tour issue and always needed a little more spin. Playing ping iblades. Onto the data

Top screen shot is club data on 6 iron iblade PX 6.5

Middle screen shot is club data Nippon 120 stiff.

Bottom screen shot is a look at the data in detail.

I really dont think I need a stiff shaft. Hit a demo and spun it like crazy into the wind.

Any help would be great Thank you!

Flex is not the be all end all, and not all flexes are created equal. Do you know what the stiff shaft you struggled with before was?

Not sure the issue with those numbers. Lower launch, lower spin. Apex height is roughly a push if you discount the 84' high one on a softer swing.

Side to side is 24' vs 53' if you discount the one left of the line on yours. Front to back is 4 yards versus 10 yards.

Rock and roll, plus I'm pretty sure their guarantee would make the flex concern a non issue if they don't perform. Why don't you contact your fitter and ask to try again if you're in doubt?

Your numbers are much more consistent with the Modus 120S. I would work on dynamic loft delivery into the wind and get the Modus 120S shafts. Build up a single iron and give it a run on the course over a few weeks. In the end, it's your call on what you play. You may gain some confidence swinging the Modus 120S over that period of time and some of you delivery numbers may change after that time frame and your into the wind shots could settle.

> Not sure if hitting the 120x would make me feel better but would like to hit one. The data alone makes me want to be in the Nippon plus I love the feel.

Tell us more about this ballooning incident. It doesn't sound like it was part of this fitting - the data at least doesn't show any ballooning. Same heads as fitted for, same grip, same swing weight?

It's hard to say for sure but yes, first thought is yes you should have at least given a 120x a try during the fitting. How many other shafts did you go through and get data for during the fitting? How much time (if any) did he spend dailing in the swing weight for each shaft?

Comparing just the Modus 120s and your gamer (DG x100?) is not even close to being a complete picture of the fitting results. The data from the shafts that didn't work can sometimes be as informative as the data from the ones that did work out.

They were the same heads that I tried. I didnt check the length nor the swing weight. I do know I was 1/2"over standard, d8 swingweight, 4 degrees upright and standard grip at the fitting.

The swingweight was only measured on the 6 iron after the fitter said this was "the" shaft. I questioned it being a stiff shaft and said I havent played a stiff shaft in a long time.

We only hit one shaft well my gamer shaft also. We hit multiple heads but with the Nippon 120s shaft. This was also a full bag fitting and the irons were the second to last in the fitting. We started with driver and must admit I was pretty wore out.

Thank you all for your replies!

That's a fairly heavy swing weight - the set you were ballooning might have been lighter - which for some people can effect the release and the dynamic loft delivered. e.g. lighter swing weight causing less forward shaft lean at impact and more dynamic loft. So may not have been the shaft. But for some flex can effect the delivery as well so that's just a guess, not any kind of certainty by any means.

I'm not saying the 120s is not the right shaft for you - it may be - but the fitting seems a bit too incomplete to confirm that it really is the best shaft option. Getting tired or worn out is certainly a valid concern and may have been on the fitters mind - but that's not really a good reason to rush to any conclusions. There is a point after which you just have to say "enough" and come back another day to finish the fitting. A full bag fitting is more than most ams can handle in a single session - at least not w/o some good breaks.

> Would it by chance cause a hook with that stiff shaft. When I tried the demo set it seemed to hook a little more, just figured it was my swing that day.

It's possible. A softer shaft will close the face a bit more than a stiffer if you have a late enough release. That's usually not a big change but might be noticeable. Also the softer feel of the shaft can influence the swing in a lot of different ways for different individuals. e.g. for me when a shaft is "too soft" I'll hold off the release and leave the face open, but many others it can result in the face closing a lot sooner and big hooks. Then for others it may make no difference what so ever. That subjective change of the swing due to a change in feel is why it's important to try a wide range of stiffnesses and shaft profiles.
