You need to motorcycle independent of grip strength.

Just a hacker but I have been working hard this year on getting rid of my slice. I strengthened my grip so that it’s pretty neutral now - it was very weak before. That was tough to play through. Even with the grip change, I still had an open club face throughout my swing. So I had to decide when and how I would close the face (in my old swing I’d close it at impact by flipping). I decided to close my face early because I was struggling with a cupped left wrist at the top of my swing. So I started working on having a bowed left wrist and bent right wrist at the top. It felt really weird and while I felt like I was DJ bowed at the top, I really wasn’t- pretty much just a flat left wrist. I then focused on getting rid of my flip on the downswing by trying to keep my wrists quiet (but not holding the lag, etc). If I flip, I hit it way left. It’s been a work in progress, but when I execute, I’m hitting baby draws that feel super solid and go at least 10-15 yards farther.

Good luck.

Are you talking about rotating the grip (like you would a motorcycle grip) or bowing of the wrist?

So you are rotating the left (lead) wrist in an effort to create a bowed left wrist and close the club face.

I can see that as a good drill for someone that casts (has a cupped wrist at contact), but it seems awfully timing dependent as a move to close the club face. The entire downswing takes less than 1/4 of a second, and the golfer is supposed to consciously manipulate their arm to bring the club face square?

For one, would stand more open. OP is standing slight closed at address, his path is also slight in to out to neutral. But not OTT. The face is open, even at takeway. Check out the one piece takeaway stuff. It's just easier to get it back to square that way. Lots of people saying standing too close very accurate, as the ironic this is that you should hit it left more, but with your hands more in front of your body (more connected), and more supination of the wrists so your clubface doesn't stay open. I would think if you saw a coach you'd be fixed up pretty easily as your swing isn't too far off IMO.

> @Lefthook - plenty of material there. Would that be similar to the point being made by glk in relation to my hips preventing my arms having any room, or do you see any posture issues causing this? Basically the same point that you're making @"Smash Factors" ? Does that arm separation from the chest need to happen in transition when i shift left? Are my shoulders opening to early and preventing this?

I agree with glk in the sense that I see that you have issues with how you move your hips. You spin your trail knee towards the target immediately: Ideally you should leave the knee behind for a split second while you use your trail leg to turn the pelvis AND shift the main pressure over to the lead foot. All of this should happen during transition. What you do now is likely to cost you some power and not least power consistency. But IMO not causing the problems you're experiencing now. This is a lot harder to learn than describe and I would wait with that if I were you. It is possible to play very good golf with the way you move your hips now.

The motorcycle move will create the path eliminating excessive over-the-top & casting. The swing thought should be to aim the butt of the club handle to the middle left side the right thigh in the downswing. Start the transition & DS using the left arm pit to pivot & turn which minimizes or eliminates the arms, and aids in the right side not getting blocked, which creates slices.

If it were me, I would start utilizing the MC move to instantly address the slicing issues then begin adapting & adopting the suppllimental moves that will increase your swing efficiency power & accuracy. Keep in mind its a step by step "Process" as you will need to build both strength & flexibility into your swing mechanics, and that requires some time & effort to properly achieve. Keep it simple, start with MC until your comfortable with the move, with experience the forearm & body rotation will become automatic as all of the parts of your swing begin to operate harmoniously & unified as a complete unit.

Doesn't need to happen in the downswing. Transition move.

Thanks for all the advice so far. Went for a lesson and grip strength and posture were the main focus.

@glk would you be able to explain the comment above. I've started hitting straight pulls or controllable fades with the stronger grip as long as i don't have too much tension in my arms and hands.

The hope would be that as the clubface gets more aligned with path, I'll be able to have the confidence to straighten the path.

It is important for shallowing. Shallowing open the face. Motorcycle is a matchup

Shallowing provides a mechanical advantage In The downswing. More info t go along with the Dana dalhquist video I posted (0post #15) previously on importance of face.

Lots of examples of this on net - Monte just posted 2 students that he helped where this was the main item worked on , . . .
