What The Heck did Club Champion do to me?

Good evening my fellow wrx'ers... So I went into Club Champion did the whole fitting thing which was great, purchased a Ventus 7x shaft for my Taylormade Head.. all was great!

 

Then my club arrived and after a few range sessions, something just wasn't quite right, so I sent the shaft down to our fellow wrxer @Nessism (who is phenomenal with club work by the way).... to change the grip on the shaft and also install the tip in a different playing setting...

 

Long story short... He texts me a few photos showing me that some random stuff was INSIDE the Ventus shaft! Has anyone ever seen or experienced this? What should I do?

Looks like someone used WAAAAY to much epoxy, and possibly let it cure with the top of the shaft pointing up.

I never realized Nessism had had such lovely hands, but he might want to look into that hang nail on his thumb? Those can get painful if not treated early.

They fit me into a D1 swing weight, so I'm not sure

 

 

I sent their corporate email address an email asking for someone to get in touch with me tomorrow so I can share pictures and talk about the next steps.. I'll keep everyone posted on here

This is from club champion all,

 

“The “rod” you found inside the shaft was a mixture of tungsten powder and epoxy. We built your driver to a specific swing weight and that’s how we achieve that. Depending on the grip size makes a huge difference in overall swing weight. Since we put a larger grip on your club with extra wraps of tape we needed to build your club to keep the weight of the club from being too light. Now if something didn’t feel right with the club that’s what were here for.”

I guess the explanation makes sense, but that's an awfully curious way to build for that. I can't help but wonder if the tungsten/epoxy mix would throw off how the shaft flexes. Would have been better off adding weight to the head via weights or hotmelt, but I'm not sure either would be possible not knowing what head it went in.

 

Edit: missed that it's a TM head. Simply should have put in an extra weight. Silly.

Yikes. That is scary to see from such a big outfit like CC.

 

They should have hot-melted your head, and matched the specs of your total build (club head weight, shaft weight, grip, and tape layers). Did they have your club head for the build? Or just the custom shaft build?

I never check D1 swing weight, but it was gripped with midsize golf pride tour velvet plus 4 with a ton of wraps under it. (Didn’t like that feel, hence why I sent it to @Nessism to dial it in! Whewww)

They had my club head with it, so they had the total spectrum

It was my M5 head, and no they didn’t unfortunately, but most definitely can

I could see buying something like that off the BST and it being someone's 'great idea', or a rouge club builder doing it....but for it to be an 'accepted practice' is a little mind-boggling.

 

I'm just as impressed that Ness was able to get it out of there. Perhaps it's something they build in-house then cut to length and shove down the shaft. I almost think it would have to be.

This was more of an exploratory post as I’ve never seen anything like that and @Nessism who is highly respectful here on the wrx ALSO has never seen anything like this... so I wanted to create a discussion to strike up conversation about this. Not necessarily complaining, just wanted to know why
