Next experiment - Adams, Mizzy, or Cleveland?

Trying my hand at club building with components sources here and the Bay. First irons I did were Cobra CB/MB combo, I like em but want more forgiveness. Next!

Heads I'm looking at now:

1. Adams Idea A1 Hybrid Iron set

2. Mizuno JPX800 Pro

3. Cleveland CG7 (non-Tour, I think)

 

10hc, struggle with distance, enjoy tinkering. Love my CB710, but can't resist urge to try new. Have both XP90 and Recoil 90 shafts to try them on.

 

Appreciate feedback on any of these models! (Or others you have lying about or thoughts on. Looking to stay under a hundo for the heads.)

I can't comment on the others but I had a set of CG7 tour zip grooves that I played for a long time and probably should have kept playing as they were a great combo of forgiving and accurate. Not to mention they will last forever. But I was chasing that next best thing because, well, golfwrx.

I took a set of Adams new idea hybrid irons (2014) and then put some ping AWT 2.0 shafts in to them. They are great. Not the longest clubs compared to the newest distance irons, but super easy to hit, really forgiving and get the ball up in the air easily even on misshits.

Figured I'd hop in here to fill the void...800's are the club I learned golf on. Decently forgiving, distance was good, and they don't look horrible at address either. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a players profile type club, but with more distance and forgiveness than a blade for example.

I don't even know the vintage of these sets. What year was that 800 JPX tour model?

Mizuno are going to be beat up due to being forged... couldn’t find much for Cleveland. Adams is the cheapest option

I also own a set of JPX 900 Hot Metals and even though they are Mizuno's most forgiving heads in the current line up (I'm discounting the EZ line up), they are still a step up in terms of ability requirements from the Adams Hybrid irons. I say that as my idea irons vs the 900 HM is similar to the A1 vs jpx 800 debate your having.

Even though I love the Mizuno's I still end up bagging the Adams the majority of the time due to the confidence they inspire over the ball.

Need to really establish what your ability is and then if you want to try and have a slight challenge to push your abilities or to make the most of your current swing.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend going somewhere that has a Mizuno shaft DNA tool as that is great for identifying the key swing mechanics and recommending a number of shafts that should best suit you. All the feedback I've seen of it say that it has suggested the shafts people were professionally fit for in the top three shafts. I'm lucky that American golf in the UK let you use it free of charge, although I think my local one is getting a little fed up of me going in and having a play with their different heads and shafts. I do buy my consumables from their though to make up for it.

CG7 are a future classic....cg7 tour still look great.Yes i bag Mizuno irons but cg7 or cg16 Very Popular.mp and cg will have better resale over adams where i am.Playing Partner still has cg16 in graphite shafts after 8 years...i regripped them 2 years ago......
