Bandon Sunset Options

Hi all! First let me say thank you to everyone that posts their Bandon experiences and thoughts on these threads. It’s an invaluable source of information to all of us that are planning our first trip. The collective knowledge is amazing. With that said I have a group of 6 guys that are headed out mid-August, and we’re all first timers. We’re on property Wednesday thru Saturday and are playing all of the courses at least once. My question is about what to do with our third round near sunset. I see mentions of loops talked about a lot, but I’m wondering what experiences the group has had that they would suggest. We only have 1 day where this is looking like an option and it’s day 1. We’re playing Trails at 7:40, then Pacific at 12:40....the lure of the magical and mystical free sunset golfing schnanigans will for sure prove to be too strong to ignore, so I’d like to be prepared with options. If you aren't already golfed out after 36, there's a couple good options since you'll probably have about 2 to 3 hours of light left.

1) Go to the Bandon Dunes pro shop and see if there's room to tee off on 10. That puts you on 16 around sunset. The front nine is also a fine option if you can't tee off on 10. Playing #6 with a low sun on the horizon would be great. Then just play in till you can't see and walk to the lodge.

2) The Preserve has good sunset views on pretty much all the holes, so it's a good sunset course. You can probably play as a 6 some there too.

3) Go off #1 at Old Mac. Sun will be going down around the time you hit #7. Enjoy it there and then walk in to the shop. Or if you have just a bit of daylight left, after 7 green walk past the snack shack to #16 tee and play in.

4) Go to Trails and play 1 thru 5, then 17 and 18.

5) Play 1 through 7 at Pacific and then hit the Punchbowl. Or just go straight to the Punchbowl after your Pacific round. Especially with 6 guys and drink service it's loads of fun.

 

Personally I'd prefer the back 9 on Bandon, but really it's hard to go wrong out there. Maybe stash a small flashlight in your bag just in case you find yourself playing until it's too dark to see and you have to walk back.
