I better order the ss because you chunk the ts in soft conditions?

Big fan of the rounded leading edge. To me it makes delicate pitches much easier and the club more versatile. Helps a lot on tight lies. No issues with these digging. That’s only going to happen if you’re trying to pick the ball with the leading edge or creating too much forward shaft lean at impact rather than using the bounce and just let the club’s sole work as designed. The rounded leading edge used properly really helps you avoid digging. It is the same reason I like the Cleveland RTX4. But I can hit pretty much any shot with the Glide 3.0 standard sole.

This^ I've played almost every brand of wedge made over the last 30 years and the glides are hard to beat,

... or make ball-first contact. Also, FYI, the TS has tons of leading edge bounce and digs far less than typical low bounce wedges.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, I ordered a 50* 3.0 today from DD’s after dropping into a local shop at lunch and checking them out. Don’t think I will ever get used to that Eye2 look, although I believe those who say it performs.

Looking to use this mainly for full shots where I feel like I could use a little more forgiveness than my Vokey. Was considering this or Cleveland CBX2 (haven’t played Cleveland wedges in 15 years) and decided to try the Glide although I didn’t mind the look of either. I ordered the Modus 105 shaft in it just because that’s what I have coming in a set of irons that shipped today. After reading through this thread, now I’m really wondering if I’ll like this thing. I’m also really regretting not specifying a heavier swing weight (whether they could even get this thing close to D3-D4, I don’t know). Lead tape might be needed if I can’t feel the head.

I guess we’ll see. Might work....might end up on the BST.

If you have ordered today, you are still in time to ask for specific swing weight I guess. Just drop a call to the retailer

From the sounds of your post you already don't like it. Some of my best buys were clubs that many here said sucked. Give it a fair chance.

Yeah, I hate to try to change a placed order but I guess it's worth a shot. Thanks.

Didn't mean to sound so negative. This was just one thread that I hadn't read through fully before I ordered, and I was surprised at the number of negative reviews. I'll definitely give it a fair shake.

My review may have sounded negative, but I actually really liked the wedge. Blade length is just a touch bigger than I’d like, and it’s going to be necessary to custom order for most avid players. You’re going to want to call and request a swingweight or else there’s a good chance your wedge will be in the high C range. It’s definitely not too late to call and request though. If you don’t make the call, there’s a high possibility you will hate the wedge based on swing weight alone. I’d request at least D4, maybe even D5. It’s a really light static weight wedge to begin with so extra swingweight, I believe, helps tremendously.

Do they do something to the head or just put a weight in the tip of the shaft? Also, can they do custom grinding?

The CTP comes in different weights, and they try to adjust swingweight that way, though I’ve heard of PING using tip weights as well though I imagine they do that when CTP adjustment alone isn’t enough.

Yes, there are tons of custom grinds available. But you have to make sure you specify swingweight or they’ll just grind the wedge without adding compensating weight for swingweight.

Is there like a catalog or something on the website I can see all the custom grinds? I don't need anything nuts, I just want a little trailing and leading edge relief on the SS that I use on the GW and SW.

Edit: Nevermind I found the custom grind catalog on teh Googlez.

Thanks. I did call this morning and they are going to get with Ping to request D4 or as close as they can get. I'm assuming they'll just use a heavier head.

I wish they had a non-coating Glide 3.0 to know what we should expect once the finish is gone. That said, this was the comparison I was waiting for and I think I am going with the 3.0 from my MD3’s.

That's a pretty good point. I know vokey says there's a lifespan to a wedge w.r.t. to grooves... wonder how many rounds the finish lasts?

I realized that after I read it the second time. Sorry. More on point I still play the original Glides and they still have a ton of spin left in them even from wet grass.

Almost about to go all Ping sans putter, hybrids, and fairways wood. I would entertain fairway woods and I have got on with their hybrids given the right shaft (though my Epic hybrid is damn near impossible to get out of my bag).

However, I can’t play a Ping putter. After playing an insert putter for so long in an original XG No. 7 their putters just feel dead.
