Ping Glide 3.0 wedges - June 2019

GolfWRX

Recommended Posts

On Carl's Golfland the description says "Ping Z-Z115 shaft made by Nippon is lighter (115g) and has a lower balance point for more control". That sounds nice to me. I currently play Modus 120's in my irons and wedges which come in at 114g in the stiff flex. The AWT 2.0 was fine but I prefer something a touch lighter.

Looks like everything is now hitting the web including PING's website with all of the specs (and of course the GolfWRX homepage).

My biggest wish is still that they had the old ES head design as an alternative to the curvier Eye 2.

And yes, I obviously realize that ES stood for Eye Sole, and that the Eye 2 is the same loft/grind/bounce as the old ES, but the ES head design was not radically different from the TS/SS/WS and now your only option comes with lots of curves.

What really made me mad was that Ping discontinued new orders of the Glide 2.0s before the Glide 3.0s were even announced. I couldn't get a new 58/ES Glide 2.0 as a back-up even when I wanted to the first week of June.

Driver: Ping G400 Max w/ Ping Alta CB 55 Stiff (44.5")

Fairway: Ping G410 SFT 3W w/ Ping Alta CB 65 Stiff

Hybrids: Titleist 818 H1 3H/4H w/ Aldila Rogue Black 85 Stiff

Irons: Ping i210 5i-UW w/ Nippon Modus 3 Tour 105 Stiff (+0.5"/1.5* upright)

Wedges: Ping Glide Stealth 2.0 54 SS / 58 ES w/ Ping AWT 2.0 Wedge Flex

Putter: Taylormade Spider X Navy (35")

It's funny how different people like different things. I love the old design, takes me back to the old days of my ISI's (one of my favorite sets) I have a stealth 54* ES which is my go to club for everything. But it'll be gone the second I can get my hands on a Glide 3.0 Eye 2 54*

> I'm curious whether or not the offset is the same on all lofts or if it varies like the original? Personally I always thought the offset on the Glide ES was the perfect balance between the two. Hope that design characteristic stays the same, I do like the new/old shape.

I like the look of the Eye 2 wedges. Interesting that the offset is 0.10 on all lofts, whereas the originals Eye 2 (and XG/Gorge) has ~0.14 on the SW and ~0.03 on the LW. I don't really care either way about having a bit less on the SW, but I do like the fact that the LW is more consistent now.

I still have some unhit Eye 2 Gorges. Maybe they will get skipped for some of these Glide 3.0 Eye 2s. I haven't been overly interested in the latest offerings (I do think the Glide Forged look great, but they are quite different than the irons I am playing. If I had the i210s or i500s, I would probably have got the Glide Forged) but these ones are quite interesting.

The Ping fanatics will love everything but I can see how these (all grinds) may look a bit too much like a GI iron (from the back) for some people.

The hosel looks super long to me.

My guess is because of the narrow connection between the hosel and the clubhead - displaces weight, but allows it to cut through tall grass. That’s the functionality of the unique hosel connection, right?

It seems like none of the articles have a release date listed, just that you can pre-order. Any idea when they are going to drop?

It always comes down to a couple of factors: Performance and design. If engineers can improve it, even by a bit, they'll make the change. PING usually just won't make a change just to make one.

Same here. Our club championship is Aug 3-4. I was hoping they would drop before Aug 1...but sounds like they will just be shipping that day.

Really wish the Glide 3.0 came with the option of the "regular" head shape with the ES grind in 58.

I was supposed to have a 2.0 stealth in 58 ES show up a couple of weeks ago, but Vans golf shop seemed to have messed up my order and they are trying to source one from Ping. I'm guessing that's going to be a no-go with what I've been reading on here...

That is fantastic. When I ordered them the pro thought pre-orders wouldn't hit until Aug 8-9. In fairness, he was sort of distracted at the time and it seemed more like an offhand estimate than anything.

To my eye...the lead edge on most of the new wedges and the eye2 look like the ISI lead edge. Not straight, not round, kinda off in a way but kinda ok in a way and kinda not sure til I see them in person. I also loved the ISI look.
