Pros with taped fingers

I've noticed some of the pros with taped fingers. Cameron Champ has tape in multiple places on one finger today. What is is for? Blisters, maybe to put pressure on tendons for tendinitis? Just curious. Never seen a weekend golfer do this.

I've not asked any of them but I know I do it for "tender spots".

It wouldn't surprise me if a couple of them do it as some sort of a reminder but would bet it's for the same reason I do.

Usually areas where the skin has a tendency to get dry, rough and cracked. If it cracks and bleeds, it is really a pain and sore too.

I recall this coming up years ago at another website. Found this piece - explains* the reason why Tiger wears tape.

Well, if I hit as many golf balls like the professional, I would need some protection for the right hand which is bare. Left hand usually has gloves on.

Can't say anything about those whom never wore a golf glove, perhaps they don't like to practice.

Long sessions in drier climates leave my hands cracked and bleeding, have to wear tape if I want to be able to play.

Ben Hogan didn't wear a glove and he kind of liked to practice.

When someone plays/practices a great deal they have pressure points where calluses can or have developed. Wearing tape over the callus area protects against further damage. Due to grip pressure, I use to wear four different tape wraps on various fingers.

I get pretty bad blisters/cracked callous on my right thumb. Been taping it past couple of years and haven’t had a blister since. I think also helps me grip the club a little better especially when I’m sweating

I do it if I play during the week after a long range session. Right hand, middle finger between first and second joint from the tip and right hand, index finger below second joint. Usually only a problem early in the season when I have not built up "golf callouses" just yet. The finger nail on my right hand little finger will dig into my ring finger at times too. Got to keep them nails cut short.

I have put tape around the last joint of the middle and ring finger of my right hand for many, many years. There are thick calluses in both areas that the tape covers and protects.

 

Taping tip: In very hot, humid climates it is sometimes difficult to get the tape to stick and last an entire round. If it slips during a swing, bad results will likely occur. I paint area that I am going to tape with NuSkin and then tape over after it dries. That seems to do the trick. No slipping.

Wrap tape around joint of my ring finger on right hand - have to. Get a callous there and it just gets bigger during golf season, then I trim it back, then it gets bigger, lol. Medical wrap means it doesn't hurt when I play. Plenty of "weekend" golfers with tape or band aids or all sorts of stuff on, lol.

He also pointed out the calluses on his hands. If you hit enough balls and/or play a lot of golf it will take a toll on your hands and fingers.

Yes, maybe that's why I read somewhere that Ben Hogan used to practice until his hands bled.

Those corded grips were certainly not easy on the hands.

He practice a lot simply because during his break through finding his own swing he did not want to stop when he just started to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Fredde Couples does not wear gloves either, but he should have wore the back brace.

I used to have callus on my hands when I was practicing a lot, still got blisters even wearing golf gloves, and there were thick skins between the right index and the right ring fingers from rubbing together.

During the winter months I have to wear tape on my right middle finger. The dry skin will crack and it hurts like heck when u hit a ball.

blisters from cord grips. fingers used to split open and its really painful.

I tape at least one joint while playing and usually two at the range. It helps with the callus and if I don't use it my fingers are sore (sorry @Lagavulin62.)

 

Here is a pro tip for you guys who do use tape - instead of paying $5 - $8 a roll from a pharmacy or sporting goods store, go to a equine supply store or website for basically the same product at a cheap price. I get 4" rolls and cut them into 4 1" rolls.

I find that my finger tape compliments the band-aids on my forehead.

It makes it look like I get into a lot of fights.

Basic cloth tape works well. Its only $1-2 at any big box or grocery store.
