Agree. Seems like he didn't click on the "non rectangular" option for package type.

Actually, I did originally forget to check the "non-rectangular" option, but that only brought the price down to $31 or so.

The REAL story is that I don't know how to measure a triangular box. The height is actually 5.5", not the 7" that I put in. When I changed it to 6" in height, the price dropped to a much more normal $12ish. A 48 x 7 x 7 triangular box with 21 inches of girth DOES indeed cost $31, though.

15205 to 73703, and directly from USPS's website. I don't think I was doing anything incorrectly, and I'm also pretty flummoxed by the pricing. I literally changed one number (the height from 7 to 6 inches) and 20 dollars was lopped off.

You should be using 6" as the height not 7" - There is a picture on the USPS website that shows how the height of the triangular box is measured. See below. Using 7" as the height is for the 48x7x7 box is incorrect.

Yup, that's exactly how I figured out I was measuring wrong. Stupid me just assumed they wanted the measurement for a couple of the sides of the box. It's been a while since freshmen geometry...

sounds about right! UPS charged me $35 to ship a putter from OK to MO. It's a 4hr drive. I forgot my box and they charged me another $15 for a total of $50. Last time I'll be using UPS, that's for damn sure.

Sounds like you didn't put the correct dimensions in when calculating the price. No way it should have been that high. Did you choose the non rectangular box option where you need to enter the girth of the box. One incorrect number in that calculation will cause your shipping cost to skyrocket. See post linked below.

> The problem is those 7” triangle boxes. I quit using them unless I cut them down to send an iron. 48” x 5” x 5” rectangle box and you are good to go (won’t get charged for oversized)

The 48x7x7 triangular box itself isn't an issue as long as you calculate the price with the correct dimensions and choose the right type of packaging (non rectangular versus rectangular). You also need to use the correct box height of 6 inches.

Cost me $40 to send a staff bag USPS ground from Tucson to Houston. USPS priority would have been $81. UPS ground wanted $61 and FedEx wanted $70. Box dimensions were 36x12x21.

Lol, you guys need to use the shipping calculator before blindly going down to the PO (or any shipper). Know the weight and dimensions of the box. If you get some crazy # it's because of dimensional weight (typically box is too long). Keep a few old boxes on hand and don't be afraid to cut a box down.....if that isn't an option then ask for an old box at a golf shop.

I really don’t understand why folks are complaining about being blindsided by shipping costs AFTER they make a sale. Don’t you guys grab a box, measure, weigh, and get a shipping quote beforehand so you are able to accurately figure the shipping costs into your sale price? Shoot, eBay does all the figuring for you if you enter the dimensions when listing your item.

FYI - today I shipped a driver from Chicago to Tampa USPS Priority for $11 in a 48x5.5x5.5" box. I was pleasantly surprised.

Perfect box size, if it was 48x7x6 you'd be looking at $42 for Priority.  Shows how important box dimensions are!

Do you guys not buy your shipping through the PayPal transaction?  I haven’t paid over $11 for a club via UPS in a long time because I buy through the PayPal transaction. $9 to send a 44x6x6 box that weighed 3 pounds earlier today
