How far have they gotten on the new clubhouse?

Still working on the exterior, but it is definitely taking shape.  Plywood sheathing is up in most areas.  The covid situation has wreaked havoc on building supplies so hopefully they are still on track.  I'm fairly excited to see it once completed.

Brisk, but pleasant morning at Coyote Run. I was expecting lighter winds, but they were steady at 10 to 15 mph. Not much in the way of trees to block it out there. The course was in nice shape. A few low spots were wet, but otherwise fine. Bunkers were wet, but playable. Greens looked like the surface of the Moon. I guess once October hits players aren't required to fix ballmarks. I fixed 17 on the final two holes. Pfffffttt. I went out as a single a few holes behind the first group, played through on the 8th hole, and had the course to myself. Nice way to finish the season here.

Felt like I was swinging in a straightjacket, but the real problem was my winter golf gloves. I couldn't keep a grip on the driver, and only hit one fairway through 12 holes. I took the stupid things off, and hit the final four. 12 greens, one birdie, and five bogies. Highlight of the round was my sole birdie on the par 3 16th. With a hurting wind, and cold temps, it was a 9 wood off the tee. I hit it high and left of the pin, and let the wind carry it to the flag, landing 5 feet from the hole. The ball basically fell out of the sky, as the ballmark was 6 inches away.

Not sure about tomorrow. Might get one more round before heading southwest this weekend. If not, it was a nice final round of the season here, and one heck of a 6 month stretch since teeing it up on May 1st.

7:30 at Village Links tomorrow. What's it gonna be? Closer to 10:30 with a frost delay?

EDIT: they were closed until 10:30 today.

Yep, loving what I see in the forecast next week.  I threw a last minute day off on my calendar and booked a time down (over?) at TPC Deere Run.  I've been talking about making the day trip for years but never actually pulled the trigger.  $49 to plan an annual PGA tour stop? Sounds like stealing.

That was another option. I think it is beautiful there in the fall. Definitely one of my favorite Ill courses and underrated too.

Next weekend looks great. I think I may journey down to Notre Dame and play the Warren Course. I haven't played it and it is 1 of 2 of my "chi area" courses I want to play that I haven't. The other being Thunderhawk.

A buddy of mine is playing Thunderhawk for the first time tomorrow.

I'll report back his impressions.

Thunderhawk is gorgeous and very challenging.  Real nice facility and can really eat you up from the back tees.

My first time at Broken Arrow tomorrow.  I was expecting an easy round but looked up the scorecard and it is a 74.8 rating...whoops.  looking forward to the beating...

I have no idea how Broken Arrow got its rating and slope so high. It is not that difficult of a course at all. Wide open off the tee, the greens are very straightforward (other than #2 on the East course) and the water hazards are easy to avoid. In my opinion, only Steeple Chase is more overrated in Chicagoland when it comes to the numbers. But, Broken Arrow definitely gives it a run for the money.

I played there last Sunday. The greens were punched recently and were pretty beat up, even for the late fall.

I think it has to do with the length - it’s pushing 7000 from the tips, and if you look at any course around that length, they’re all rated pretty high.   But I agree - the rating is close to Ruffled Feathers, and there’s no way BA is as hard as RF.

Speaking of RF -  took advantage of some nice weather this afternoon.  Teed off on 1 at 4:15, but ran into a 2-some on 3.  After waiting what seemed like forever on 4,  hopped on the back 9 and played it in 1:15.  Finished right at 6...   Course continues to be in good shape - the low areas of fairways were pretty wet, but otherwise no complaints.   Greens continued to roll fast and true.   Looks like they’re not punching them this fall.

Chit load of Maltbys - TS2 irons, KE4 TC Driver & 4 wood, TSW 54* & 60* wedges, PTM5 Mallet putter

Ok, good to know!  Bummer about the greens but hopefully healed a little more this week.

Probably the worst experience of the year yesterday at Bartlett Hills. With the cold morning, it was pretty logical that there was a frost delay. Checking in, I asked the guy in the pro shop if there was a delay and he said there was a short one but that everything was caught up. There was 2 other groups checking in.  When asked what there tee time was, they said 10:10 and 10:20.  Hmmm...they missed their time apparently because of being overserved the night before. The guy in the pro shop radios the starter and tells him to put these two groups out asap.

When it comes to our tee time, we went to the starter, who was beyond frustrated.  It turned out we weren't going off until the 6 groups in front took there turn.  The starter also said there was a 2.5 hour frost delay and he'd been behind since the day started.

We teed off about 45 minutes late played the first hole and then joined 3 other groups on the second tee. Looking at the par 5 4th hole, they had apparently let a fivesome of beginners go together as well. We waited on every shot on every hole and turned the front 9 in a fresh 3 hours and 5 minutes.

The back was slightly better but it ended up being a 5 hour and 30 minute round...yee hah.

But there's more. As we're getting ready to hit our second shots into 17, we see two kids go from the 10th fairway and hit into the 17th green. We were gracious and didn't do/say anything. But on 18, they hit a total of 6 tee shots and then decided to practice putt on the green. We did yell to get off the green and one of the punks stood there for about another minute or two before finally giving us the finger and leaving.

So thanks to the staff at Bartlett Hills for their honesty and just a special day.

Hey DP4,

that had to feel so awkward.

this season has tested so many staff members at courses and many show the need for retraining in some areas of customer service.

why bother to answer a customers questions with incorrect information when the truth is always going to be evident ?

Similar experience at Broken Arrow yesterday.   Arrive for 11:30am tee time and told there was a 1 hour frost delay and that I could tee off at 12:30pm.  There was no starter and no one on the tee...lol.  We tee off at 11:20am and proceed to watch the threesome in front take about 10-15 strokes each to reach the green.  No worries, the round only took 4:10 minutes so not bad by any stretch.  5.5 hours must have been awful.

Anyway, the rating for Broken Arrow may have been 78/155 yesterday, holy moly.  20-30mph winds changing direction mid swing, it was insane.  Just a ho-hum course, didn't hate it, didn't love it.  Alot of houses but somewhat set back from holes.  Conditions were spotty.  I would play it again but there are of course two other awesome courses just minutes away so hard to justify going here.  There is no way this course is rated almost the same as Oak Grove or Stonewall, that is crazy.

You guys are playing on the wrong day, lol.

I walked 36 today in 5 hours. Had the courses to myself. I much rather deal with some cold winds than jammed courses and all the fun times that come with that.

... Funny how that works. We played Naperbrook yesterday teeing off at 1:50 and played the front in 1:50 minutes and one of our 4some dropped off. Back 9 was slower and by 17th tee we could see the par 5 18th was empty with 11 players on one hole. Battling darkness you would think some urgency would be appropriate but we were the last group and the group in front of us were waiting while "that 4some" teed off. We finished 17 and they still hadn't hit their 2nd shots with one guy giving instructions to another while 7 of us waited on the tee with the sun now below the horizon. Finished with a birdie in barely enough light to see and sure enough it was 6pm so 4:10 minutes which as you said is not bad unless you play the front in 1:50 and the back in 2:20 and a group takes forever on the last 3 holes.
