Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round 3)

I'm already scheduled to hit indoors at the Mistwood dome this week, so I'll probably go ahead with it. I'm just looking forward to chipping and putting outside. I'm not sure when Morris CC and Nettle Creek will start letting people play, but I don't think it will be this week. Looking forward to reading about other people playing golf for the time being.

LD and I got out to Deer Creek yesterday. For March, the weather was quite good. The course still had some snow on it and a few of the greens were unplayable. So, it was more of on-course range session than an actual round. Good thing, because my ball striking was awful. But, I did chip and putt well. So, not all terrible.

Towards the end of last season, I started to get an over-active right hip on the downswing and it has continued all winter at the range. Going to need some work to correct this. Hopefully, more ranges start to open up soon. The last time I went to the Des Plaines range, it was way too packed for my liking during these covid times.

Deer Creek was a sloppy mess on Sunday but everything is nice and thawed out for this weekend. It'll be cold, sure, but the snow and ice are gone. I'm sure courses will be CPO. That doesn't impact us walkers but ought to keep some casual golfers off of courses.

I'll be back in town on Sunday. Going to take a week off to recoup from the six day drive home, and take care of of a few things.

Hopefully things will be somewhat playable the week of the 22nd.

Seven Bridges is PACKED today. Watching group after group tee off. This whole golf industry boom/revitalization kind of sucks. 😂

... Crazy huh? I spent the 2019 winter in Phoenix to decide if I wanted to move here. As a single I played lots of $200-300 courses on Golf Now from $39-59 all winter long when they had one slot to fill on the day of. This year thanks to Covid and the "whole golf industry boom/revitalization" those deals have completely disappeared. Tough to justify paying $175-250 for those same courses when I can play Aguila and Papago, the excellent muni's here for $22 and $30 with a Senior City Card. I understand after Spring Training and once May and the 100*+ temps arrive the price drop considerably ... but with Covid who knows?

I got back into fishing and well, it kinda consumed me 🙂  I think I could open up a small tackle shop right about now!

Its funny you mention Danielle. She sent me a message a few days ago!

I plan on getting back into the golf scene again and hope to meet up with you fine lads sometime this season!

Spring Valley, Hawk's View (par 3), Valley Ridge, and I believe Marengo Ridge are all open.

I'm debating between Barn Hollow and Valley Ridge for Sunday morning.  The little par three course sounds appealing to break the rust off, but I want to hit my whole bag so...

Spring Valley would be the easy choice, but it's always a swampy mess this early in the season.

Hopefully the snow misses us, but the temps drop a bit to keep people away.  I like empty courses during my winter rounds.

Wedgewood in Joliet is open. I stopped by today during lunch and hit some putts. The ground is still pretty soft and I didn't see anyone playing using a cart. I saw some guys walking though. The range had a couple people on it and I had the practice green to myself.

Played the ridge today. Wasn’t to bad. Walking only. I played terrible but it was still nice to get out. Only one group in front of us when we teed off

White Hawk Black and Silver today with Bear. He’s bailing on city living in a couple of months so we’re knocking off the South Suburban courses that he likely won’t be hitting up anymore. Everything about today was outstanding. The weather was awesome (high 50’s and sunny), we were the first ones out and only had to wait out a 20 minute frost delay and our games are coming around after shaking off the usual winter rust. Also, WH at $29 to walk is a steal. It was the driest I’ve ever seen it and we were getting tour roll out. Silver Hawk isn’t quite as daunting with drives rolling out. It’s still a course that produced some bogies but I’ll take a 77 to open the season.

Just finished first “official” round at Sanctuary.  Place is very playable- some bunkers are trash, but other than that no complaints.  We had a 9am tee time and finished in 3:10 (threesome), while waiting to hit almost every shot starting with 13th hole.  Winter special rate is $55 with cart😨.

Today's weather is a good example of why we get so few rounds played in March. Sheesh. Next week looks warmer, but there's a chance for rain Monday through Wednesday.

Curious, but what is the reasoning for coming back in March and not April?

I want to get my condo listed by April 1st. The sooner I sell the sooner I can hit the road.

Well the snow melted quickly. Sunny and 60 on Sunday. Hopefully it won't be like playing in grass soup.

I snuck out of a family gathering on Saturday to play 9. Luckily, Sugar Creek is around the corner from my Father-in-law's house. I have a 3 month old boy and time was essential here. Conditions were OK. The fairways were fairly dry but the greens were running very slow. I struck my irons really well. I had to borrow a putter from my playing partner as I left mine at home on my putting mat. Couldn't believe it. Two birdie putts, but missed them both. Two pars. I am a 29 handicap so was very pleased with this.

Wait, they were open? Last year they went to online only for times, no walkups, so I checked their site and saw nothing available and assumed they weren't open yet. Dang, that's just down the road from me and I wanted to sneak out. Greens there will always be slow, way too much slope in them to run fast. But this time of year I'm certain they're not running machines yet, nor is grass growing.

be good to see the gang and catch up.

when asked about conditions, one of the guys said he needed to get out of the house so bad, he didn't care if it required waders.

Highland Woods on Saturday.   Super excited!  I decided a long time ago to play courses early in the year that have generally poor conditions throughout the year.  Produces lower expectations and less disappointment!

There are a lot of decent courses in the South suburbs but Bear wants to make one last visit to, of all places, Cardinal Creek. Last year I shot 73 and 70 at the Oakmont of Beecher but ol’ Bear didn’t fare so well and is hoping for a revenge round in what might be his last visit there.
