Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round 3)

Not a lot of moisture lately around here. Conditions will likely be pretty good for this late in the year. I played Marengo Ridge yesterday and it was bone dry.

The only issue with Cog is they always punch super late in October with the huge holes and then sand the crap out of their greens.

2 is fun. They used to take care of it much better and in the spring/summer it was a great value. But the past few years the condition has dropped off. Still a fun layout though and it is December so condition isn't really a priority or possibility any way.

Keep me honest here but doesn't 2 end on the 19th hole...and not that 19th hole but an extra par 3?  Or has my dementia kicked in again.  No comment VNutz.

It does, at least according to the website. One of the reasons I picked it.

Anyone have any experience with an annual pass at Cog?

... Cog Hill was part of my normal rotation with Naperbrook, Carillon and Prairie Bluff. Especially on the weekend with the Mrs who loved #1 and #2. But in 2020 the conditions got so bad we stopped playing there. It is a real shame Frank let Joe's dream of a Country Club experience for public golf evaporate into thin air. It was never an attainable goal of course but Joe at least made the effort keeping cart paths off his course and I loved how he aereted 1/2 of the green putting the flag on the good side, then 2 weeks later coming back and doing the other half and putting the flags on the healed half. Frank lets big tines with no sand fill take months to recover, if it ever does. And lastly a strictly enforced pace of play with a "Please pick up the pace and c etc h the group in front of you" followed by "You will have to pick up your balls and move to the next hole" and the 3rd strike a request to leave the course with a full refund. All that disappeared when Frank took over. Such a shame.

Yes. It is across the road, next to the #18 green on Dubs. About a 190 yard par 3.

Also, as someone without a hole-in-one, I'm conflicted on this hole. Sure, the chances of an ace are .0001 (likely lower), but would I want my first ace (maybe only ace) to be on this hole? Sure, an ace is an ace. Better to have one than none, right? Then again, this is a throw away bonus hole, not part of the round. Anyway, this always something I think about when playing this hole and I'm probably the only person that does, lol.

Ouch. That doesn't sound promising.

Bear if you and LD had 75 minutes, jumped on a par 3 course and you made an ace, would you count it?

Very good point. Ace is an ace.

LD has aces at Marengo Ridge and Palos Hills Golf Course, and they still count, lol.

... I have 2 Abatross. I don't have a hole in one. The Golf Gods even had some fun with me at Boughton Ridge #3 when I hit my first shot in the water, re-teed and holed the next shot for par. As if they were saying you could have a HIO but we just aren't gonna let you. Some make the argument an Albatross is more impressive than a HIO but the truth is I am aiming right at flags on many par 3's but both of my 2's on par 5's were just aimed at the green, bounced down the slope of a mountain in Asheville NC and somehow found the hole. Good shots for sure but much more luck than a HIO on a par 3 when you are aiming at the flag in my opinion.

What are you guys wearing for cold weather gloves? Gonna try and play next week at the ridge

I wear Footjoy rain gloves. Works well. Provides enough protection, without interfering with your grip.

The Footjoy winter gloves are little too thick and start to become cumbersome when gripping the club.

I prefer the Footjoy winter gloves when it's cold. I find that the FJ rain gloves are slippery if they're not wet.

Trick I started last year was to wear winter gloves and then pull them off when hitting.  If you think about the miniscule amount of time you actually are swinging a club, it starts to make sense.  Worked well for me in temps around 35 degrees.  Just pull them off and put them in pull cart and put them back on after swinging.  This is also ideal for me since I never wear golf gloves.

L.A.B. Golf is choosing ten GolfWRX members to receive their MEZZ.1 putter early and put their brand new product to the test before reporting back to the community about what they see. The selected testers will be one of the first to experience the MEZZ.1 from L.A.B. It includes 10 weights (eight on the bottom, two on the sides) that allow us to individually build each putter to a golfer’s exact specifications.

      How To Apply
In a post below, answer the following questions.

      1. City, State?
      2. Handicap?
      3. What is your current putter?
      4. Have you ever used a L.A.B. Golf putter?
      5. Why do you want to review the MEAZZ.1 putter?
      6. Do you agree to participate in an ongoing testing thread, posting reviews and photos?

That's it! @labgolf and GolfWRX will choose the testers in about 2 weeks! This testing event is for good-standing members in the USA only!
