we chose the first tee time this year. sunrise golf on Saturdays. seems we won't be paired up with anyone for a while.

It will be interesting watching what happens to green fees in May, especially if the weather gets real nice, can’t imagine they hold steady in high density areas.

I disagree. Twosomes walking should provide some of the best paced rounds we ever see collectively around here.

I love to play fast, but I'd rather play a little slower and be able to play with the foursomes I normally play with. I totally understand not wanting to play with a foursome just yet, but as I said this is better than nothing and I didn't think the governor was going to let us play at all.

Wow! I love all the restrictions, this is wonderful. I agree that the twosome part stinks and was probably not needed. I generally golf with two other guys so we will still have to head to WI or IN but awesome to see this finally get worked out for IL.

 

Having driven by many courses recently, they look to be in wonderful shape. No carts will only add to the course conditions being improved. I imagine greens fees will be increased due to demand and limited number of players, but I am willing to pay for the opportunity.

As fast as a lot can play, especially as a twosome, then considering how slow some can play (and they usually play with equally slow)...prediction: we’ll still see back ups out there.

I talked to a few directors of golf and pros last night in my weekly poker game (online) and gathered their thoughts. Public golf courses for the most part aren't making a ton of money no matter what (virus or not). This obviously doesn't help. But there is literally no cost to them. Their courses were already still being maintained, they received ppp funding - more than enough to be "comfortable" for the time being. That fact is, these courses aren't going to generate revenue until they can host their big company outings, weddings, corporate events etc. Which is obviously unsafe and won't happen for awhile.

They don't have to open if they don't want to. The pros that are on salary were being paid anyway. Now they get to bring in a little revenue to help.

We live amongst a bunch of idiots, the government has to protect them from themselves because unfortunately a ton of golfers can't be trusted to practice restrictions on their own.

This situation isn't good for anyone. They can't just reopen for steam ahead. Courses will struggle to get through this, unfortunately there are things more important than golf and $.

... Hard to complain when at least we can play again. But I would agree 15 minute intervals for 2somes is over the top. 12 minutes if it is 2somes only, should be more than sufficient. If a really fast 2some catches a slower 2some, then relax and enjoy the fact that you are able to play at all. But considering the social golfer more interested in drinking, riding their carts right next to greens/tees, never miss a cart girl stop, play LOUD music that can be heard on adjacent holes while paying more attention to each other or their phones than golf, won't be walking the course with one other person only ... I think any congestion will be very rare. And since it will most likely be serious golfers, 12 minute intervals gets more players out while still protecting the field. If it were 4somes, 15 minutes would be great.

Will courses abide by that? 15 minute separation is what, one twosome a hole or even two holes all to themselves? The USGA might put us on the clock ?.

As a Packers fan, lifelong, I'm no fan of the pick (nor the next two, really), but catching heat from the org that traded up to take trubisky with the second pick is a little beyond the pale.

 

I mean, I'm not 10 years old, but...scoreboard?

... I would think every 2some teeing off has an empty hole in front of them. But considering some have not hit a golf ball in 5 months, the first hole or two might be a little slower than the rest of the round. Hopefully.

I've played it several times. 'Not my favorite Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus design, but it's playable. There are a few quirky holes. It plays short, and relatively tight. You'll hit less than driver on a number of holes.

I'm furloughed for 4 weeks beginning on 5/8...this announcement is the best news I've heard in months. I'm about to play 4x my number of typical annual rounds over the course of a month.

... I like "a mess" much more than "has it's problems" and it is the entire state, not Chicago. That said, I agree they have handled this Covid threat as well as it can be handled.

our course emailed that for May, all permanent time holders can call in or use the website so they can best see how to fit the players on the course.

weekend players are invited to come use the course on weekdays if desired.

they will see if June 1st changes the restrictions.

I'm hoping to get out on Monday, May 4th, or Tuesday, May 5th, weather permitting. However, I think we're going to see packed tee sheets for the entire month. I guess I'm lucky because I'll play in just about any weather, so I expect my rain gear to get another good workout this spring.
