Tourstriker Planemate

I think what this device/training aid promotes is the 'feelings and positions' you need to be in for the correct sequences of the golf swing.With repeated use and incorporating the drills and protocols it helps a bunch to change and improve muscle memory....and it's basically a one time fee as opposed to having to pay repeatedly for lessons that may or may not help.JMO

But then again,I'm one of those who made my own device and saved a few $$.

I'm thinking a pair of "reverse garters" would do the trick. Holding the belt down instead of your panty hose up. Attach at each hip and run down the thigh. Then tie off above the knee like a gunslinger has a holster hold down.

 

Maybe it would make you hit better like it made LaLoosh pitch better in Bull Durham!

I tend to agree. For a lot of high handicappers there is a reason they have the handicap that they do and once they start experiencing the "feedback" (arm burns from the bands and soreness) they will likely quit it as they have quit everything else in their goal to "improve". This obviously doesn't apply to the WRX crowd as we are all 1-year away from the PGA Tour, well, the KFC Tour at least.

Worst case, it ends up on the BST and sells in 2 minutes.

Being serious.

I don’t see the PlaneMate as a tool an everyday 20 capper and up would actually stick with. I don’t think it would hurt them, I think they would just quit from frustration (probably like they’ve done everything else).

This would only work for them in conjunction with lessons.

my short review of my planemate experience thus far:

i am a typical inconsistent golfer that changes/tweaks his golf swing as often as his underwear. I find something that works for the week, I stick with it till it fails and I start all over. I have never had a lesson and have never purchased a training aid before. My average scores are low 90’s and I break into the 80’s for a few rounds a year when I can put everything together. I’m fed up with quick fixes and inconsistent play. I found the planemate thread alittle late and after they had all gone on backorder. I luckily found one on UK eBay and did not get price gouged.

A little about my swing, i learned from watching videos of John Daly...that should tell you everything you need to know. Lol. Long backswing, 110%, over the top with a flip at the end was my results.

After receiving my planemate I worked through a few of the protocols but grew impatient and skipped to the long band and full swings. I did not feel it changed my initial take away much as I did not previously pull the club to far to the inside. I had no issues with keeping tension (resisting) during the takeaway or backswing. What did change was the top of the backswing positioning and the relaxing to shallow the club. It was an immediate mind blown moment that I had been doing this whole thing wrong for 20 years. For the past two weeks I have only practiced with the full shots without hitting shots with it on. I stop at different parts of my swing to take note of my positioning so that when I take it off and swing freely I am meeting those same positions. The balls that I have hit once the planemate is disconnected have been night and day from before using it. Now that I am seeing the results I wanted to see I am going to slow down and go back to do the full protocol in order.

 

attached are some pictures of different positions in my swing that were taken before planemate, using planemate, and after planemate. The after pictures were taken after the first session with the planemate, the progress since then has been only positive and I am getting closer to holding the planemate position even when unstrapped.

Yes, that is one thing I have started to address. I found that I had a very weak grip (could not see any knuckles on left hand) I found that rotating my hand stronger has helped close the face more through the backswing.

You can also feel like you are turning the face closed with the forearms on the takeaway to train the feels. As everything, feel vs. real will be totally different so hopefully it gets you to a nice middle ground.

was showing it to my mid cap buddy. He could immediately feel the difference, but I do think it comes down to being patient and dedicated to the protocols. Using the PM is tough- Trying to use it doing full swings right out of the gate is brutal. That’s probably the main culprit of any negative feedback. I see NO reason why a dedicated mid cap couldn’t have incredible improvements. I’ve hovered in the 10-12 range for two years and my last 7 rounds have all counted towards my handicap. Down to a 9 headed into winter. Thanks PM!

In theory, yes. In practice, if you aren’t watching, paying attention, or having someone watch you, it is easy to still feel resistance but have the band pull your wrists and arms into a very laid off position. As you turn and the arms lift, there is a lot of resistance - the distance from the belt clip to the club attachment is increasing. So it can actually pull you into a very laid off position while you are still feeling resistance.

I agree it’s imperative to follow the protocols and when you start getting to anything more than 1/2 swings to either use a mirror or record yourself and check periodically to ensure you’re not falling into this trap.

Yeah the that is one area where you can cheat a tad if you aren't watching yourself or if you have the tendency to get laid off in general. The intent is to keep the tension by getting the club more vertical on the way up via the pivot and wrists, def need to make sure you are doing it correctly with mirror/video. David Woods said in the TXG podcast you should feel like you are standing the club up like an umbrella.
