Vokey SM8

The #1 reason why raw wedges are in 99% of the pro's bags is the ability to custom grind player's preferences. Less than 50% of the pros on the PGA Tour use wedges that are stock grind heads. I do like the non-glare finish but my PERSONAL PREFERENCE in a raw wedge is the lack of noticeable visible wear on the face and sole. After months of use with a Chrome, Brushed Steel, and Jet Black finish you will get wear patterns that are quite noticeable especially with use from sandy lies or bunkers. A Raw finish will have wear patterns as well, but the look from address is not nearly as noticeable.

I tried the sm8's today, have never gamed vokey's and they surprised me with good feel and great feedback on chip shots. Question, I was hitting all of the lofts towards the heel. Should I have them 1 degree flatter or is it my technique that needs work?

Well, I'm now the proud owner of an SM8 60° lob wedge.

Lost my marbles the other day at the range and destroyed my old Mack Daddy2 so I dropped into the local retailer last night and they had just received a boatload of SM8 wedges. They had three left handed 60° in stock (8, 10, 12) so I went with 10S (I don't know F all about grinds but thought it a safe bet to go with the middle one)

With my trip to the Masters cancelled I felt it a good time for some retail therapy.

Anyone notice added offset on the sm8? After hitting them at demo day alongside the mg2 and md5, I didn't really care for the leading edge this time...

Just picked up my set of raw sm8’s yesterday. Built with modus 125 wedge shafts. This is my first time playing vokey’s since sm4 and so far they are great. Will take a little adjustment period as I’ve been playing forged, low bounce wedges for the previous 4 years. What sold me during my fitting were the grinds, turf interaction and distance control from 100y and in.

I have the Milled Grind 2 in 60-LB, 54-LB, and 50-SB. I have the SM8s in 50-F, 54-S, and 60-L. I also had the SM7s in the exact bounce configurations. I have to say that I like the shape and finish of the Sm8s more than the SM7, and the thinner topline looks better. The 60 SM8 has a slightly better shape than the SM7, and is very slightly larger. Not as large as the MG2 wedges though. The MG2 wedges are larger and have more offset as a rule. The offset in the 60 is quite evident compared to the SM8. I think the leading edge of the SM8s is not as rounded, therefore, it looks like there is more offset, but looking down at the 3 wedges side by side at address, the MG2 definitely has the most. We all preferred the SM8 over all of them in appearance.

Anyone have experience of the SM8 52:08 F and 52:12 F?

I use a 52/58 combo. Today I have V-grind in 58, but will probably move to D-Grind. I love everything about V-grind, but since it’s discontinued I feel D-grind is the way to go. I love full bounce on square shots, but I must have relief since I feel very comfortable doing flop shots when needed, and use them at least once or twice per round.

I’m a digger, BUT in addition to full shots with 52 I use it for about 60-80% of all small chips around the green. Almost never use 58 except for flop shots.

Is there a big difference between the 52:08 and 52:12 when taking small chip shots around the green. The lies might be quite tight, but not links course super tight.

All feedback appreciated.

The 50.12 has 50% more bounce, less likely to dig and will also help with keeping contact lower on the face. You will probably notice the difference of bounce the most on short pitch shots and chipping where the club is going to glide and actually bounce off the ground.

If you are steep or have more forward press on your chip shots you may want to go with the 12 degree bounce.

Tried them at a Titleist demo day at my club. Found the D grind to be awesome. Stupid easy to manufacture all kinds of shots with and really forgiving with turf interaction.

If anyone ordered custom stamping either through WW or stock grinds/finishes... they are back logged like crazy. I don't remember normal production time for customization but rep told be it's 3-4 weeks now.
