Mizuno MP-20 HMB - July 2019

I’d been going round and round over whether to break my HMB/MB set at the 6 or 7 iron. After seeing your pics I’m glad I went 7-P in the MB because the HMB is probably a little chunkier than what I’d like to see in that slot.

Hit the HMB today for about 45 minutes and it’s very nice. Such great soft feel like you expect from Mizuno. Looked very good at address. I was on grass and they are very easy to hit and still I hit 2 bad shots one of the toe and one thin and both shots were only a few yards off . Very easy to work the ball. These will for sure be my 4,5,6 and maybe 7. Can’t wait you hit the MMC.

> So I spent some time with the HMB today. They are a bit bigger than I thought but not in the way that I thought. The offset is fine, the blade length is fine. The top line is very thick but what really stood out for me was the size from the top line to the sole. It has a bigger footprint vertically but compact blade length. I hit about 10 shots with them with a few different shafts and they felt great for a hollow iron especially since its not filled in side. Feels forgiving. It will definitely capture the market for those who need more forgiveness and need a higher launch. I did also spend some time with the MMC, they are more my cup of tea as far as size, topline, feel more solid and I did hit them further for some reason probably do the the launch angle differences. Again this is all on a launch monitor so I take results with a grain of salt. I am not the best indoor swinger. Here are some pics I snapped vs AP2 718

I hit the HMB 7i yesterday. Only was able to get in 4 swings since I was just running in for a grip and didn't expect to see them there yet. They feel great. Numbers seemed a little shorter than my 745's, but I didn't warm up and didn't hit side by side. I agree that the top line is a little thicker, but the angle of your pic is a little deceiving. I'd compare the 7i topline to P770. They look pretty good. I'm excited to see the whole set, especially the short irons.

Yeah they are thicker. They look beveled to play thinner though. I would definitely want to hit off grass before considering.

That is always the best way. I thought about trying a #5 iron for added launch

I was originally thinking of going full HMB when I heard the announcement but now I'm not sure if that's a good idea now that I have seen it in person. I think I might do 2 of each: 5-6 HMB, 7-8 MMC, 9-P MB. I would have to hit them side by side to see, but I do agree with others on here that the new 790 definitely looks better at address as does the i500. Then again, no pictures on the scorecard right?

Nothing to me, especially from just pics so far T20 looks like a great wedge. Warrick is the resident Mizuno guy, and it seems he’s not making any moves (surprised!).

But yeah mostly just jokin

I guess I don’t really get the point of throwing in 1-2 MMC in the middle of a set. From what I’ve gathered the HMB and MMC are your equally forgiving options for longer irons one just launches higher. (HMB)

So it seems logical to me if someone is going to make a combo set using the blades in the short irons, they would then select one of the HMB or MMC in the longer irons depending on launch needs.

I don’t care what anyone wants to play as long as they’re happy, it just doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. Plus I think the resale value would be hurt.

I have 2 sets of 919T, a set of 900F and full sets of T7 for all 3, newest set is even 45,49,53,58 in T7. I expected to want something from this line but am sticking, tired of bag changes.

Vorshel says the HMBs are more forgiving than the MMC's across the line...but how do you measure that? I tend to agree with you but I would assume, based on the technology, the HMB's are longer than the MMC across the board. > @MBBG said:

The HMBs look like they're gonna be an outstanding option for a lot of people and I would at least like to hit that in a 7i compared to the SEL blades. But, like other manufacturers not releasing their most-intriguing clubs (to me), it is something that lefties have to deal with!

Ouch!

At least they are making the 3-4 iron in HMB which helps!

My local shop does not have the heads yet. I was about to pull the trigger on the 919 Forged when I saw the HMB's coming. Anyone have insight between feel, distance, forgiveness of the HMB vs 919 Forged?

I was thinking similar to you except doing the 6-7 in the MMC and 8-PW in MB to be able to keep ball flight down a little bit and throw in the 5 HMB to get the height. Would have to work out the lofts to not have too large of gaps between the MB's and transition into the MMC or HMB.

Hit these today against the 790s. They didn’t feel as good and the dispersion was worse front to back. Disappointed to say the least. I hit them high though. Mind you, this was only with the 7 iron. I really want to hit the 9 iron and the 4 iron.
