Austin, TX Clubfitter

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a custom clubfitter in the Austin/Central Texas Area?

Not necessarily looking to order a whole new set of clubs, but potentially just have my current irons fit for me, maybe order a new driver and 3 wood since I'm still rocking a Titleist 910 I got new when they came out with a stock shaft. I'm currently playing to a 5 handicap and think I could get a little more consistency from my game if I properly fit my set of clubs. Also been reading up about MOI matching instead of swingweight matching so someone with some experience in that area would be greatly appreciated as the idea has definitely intrigued me. TIA

Have you used club champion before? The reviews for the local store are decent but there are some that the reviewer felt that the fitting wasn't as in depth as they had hoped. Golf scene is decent in Austin. I moved here about 10 years ago for college from Houston. Way more golf courses in Houston but I much prefer the hill country layouts with the elevation changes you can find on the courses west of town to the tall tree lined courses you typically find in Houston.

Anyone else have any clubfitter suggestions? I make it up to Dallas and over to Houston a few times each per year so if someone has a solid recommendation in those areas let me know. San Antonio is only about and hour and fifteen minutes down the road as well.

In Austin you are pretty much limited to Club Champion, the big box stores and the local clubs. I've been to Club Champion several times with varying degrees of success. I usually go into fittings knowing what I'm looking for so I think I got out of them what I wanted. There is also a fitter out at Barton Creek that anyone can use. His name is Bobby Dean and he has a Trackman outdoors. He won't have the selection that Club Champion has especially with more exotic or rare shafts though. Like I asked him if he had Steelfiber shafts to fit with and he does not.

In San Antonio, there is MK Golf. I know those guys are they are good as well. Indoor hitting bays with GC Quad. Again, not quite the selection of Club Champion though.

In Dallas, there are multiple options. Cool Clubs, Sellenger's Power Golf in Addison, Golf Tech Plano just to name a few. I really liked Cool Clubs because it was outside, had Trackman and had quite the selection. Plus, they probably gave me the best putter fitting I've had to date. But this was a few years ago mind you. Not sure how it's changed.

As for building an MOI matched set, not sure any of those places would know how to do that. The guys at Golf Tech Plano might. My buddy had an MOI set build for him through some guy in Colorado, but he hated the result.

But I'd recommend Club Champion. Mike A. is a good dude. They will put you through a bunch of head/shaft combos and make a recommendation. They'll even send you the Trackman report you can view and analyze later. Don't buy on the spot, but take some time to digest the information and see if it makes sense. I was fit there recently for some Srixon 785's and they were definitely better than what I was playing.
