It's out

https://www.pgatour.com/news/2019/07/29/expanded-regular-season-2019-2020-schedule-49-events.html

There will be no PGA Tournament the week of the Olympics August 2

The WGC Memphis moves to the date halfway between the Opens (as does the Barracuda)

With an extra week between the PGA and US Open the Rocket Mortgage Tournament moves into a May slot.

On the other hand, the 3M Open will now follow the British Open.

Sanderson Farms is now a full PGA Tour event.

ZOZO event in Japan replaces the CIMB in Malaysia.

There is a new opposite field event in Bermuda.

The Northern Trust will be played in Boston.

Got to feel a little for the Travellers. It’s picked up a decent amount of steam over the last few years but sandwiched in between the US Open and a WGC you can only see the strength of field going down.

If I was going to change part of the schedule, it would be to clear up the Florida logjam a little.

Move the WGC Match Play to two weeks after The Masters where New Orleans is and move that into the "Florida Swing."

A new Florida Swing could look like this

WGC Mexico/ Puerto Rico

Valspar

Honda

TPC (I'd rather have it two weeks before The Masters, but the Tour seems to want it here)

New Orleans

Bay Hill

Texas Open

Masters

IMO the WGC events are a problem. The Valspar gets the screws handed to them since it's right after TPC and before the WGC Match play.

would love to see rahm go to the Irish Open instead of the wgc, if the Irish Open retains its spot ... there's one too many wgc events ... certainly don't need one between the two opens when people want to go over and work on their links game ... probably two too many ...

I'm not a fan of where the Match play event is on the schedule. I liked it when it was the last stop of the west coast swing.

With the schedule now set, that is the new top priority for the PGA Tour.

The Honda --> API --> The Players is a great stretch.

Just in time for us Northerners to start knocking the rust off.

The best answer would be to move the WGC from Memphis to Europe and play it the week before the British Open.

Houston is back, the course will have a much different look than when it was played the week before the Masters. Wonder if it stays there when the new course re-opens.

They are talking about Memorial. Not sure how long they will need? When school starts back in several weeks I may have to plan a run after work and see what progress, if any, is going on. It’s been a few years since I ran that loop.

The driving range has been torn down and will be replaced with a double decker, and the course is all fenced off until end of October. I couldn't see much other than the 10th hole but I am interested to see what changes have been made. It is supposed to move there for next years event (2020-2021 season) just not sure where it will fall on the schedule when that happens.

Terrible date for the WGC in July, the whole point of the WGCs originally were that they'd be **world** golf championships, not 3 in North America to go with 3 majors there. The other idea was that it was supposed to be joint decision making by European Tour and PGA Tours. There's no way the European Tour would happily agree to that date, it's knocked the French Open and now the Irish Open off key dates. The Irish Open is one of the best attended and best tournaments of their entire year.

Then there is the interesting sideplot where JP McManus has got Tiger, Phil, Rahm, Rory etc signed up for a Pro Am in Limerick on the Monday after it in Ireland. Do they skip the WGC or find a way across jet lagged?

I agree with you that there shouldn't be 3 WGC's in North America. I think it would be kind of cool if either the Scottish Open or Irish Open was upgraded to a WGC. There are some really cool courses on the European Tour that would be way different from the typical drive/wedge game of the PGA Tour. That way there would be a WGC in Europe, Asia, and North America.

was kind of thinking the same thing ... the pga tour is def calling the shots ... i understand they might have a bit more say, but there's got to be some give ... i honestly hope they don't move the irish tour and make the euro players choose ... i'd be willing to bet quite a few would choose the irish open ...

So you want the top players playing each other less often and you want the pros to make a lot less money.

Silly post. Who would want that? You don't need the WGC to have the top pros playing. The top pros don't play more events due to the WGC. Their number of events is set without regard to the WGC and the playoffs.
