Does anyone know how he is qualified for 2nd stage of Q school? I thought one would need to start from 1st stage without any or sufficient FedEx Cup or Korn Ferry tour points from prev season....

He is exempt into the second stage due to his top-25 ranking in the World Amateur Golf Rankings at the time of turning pro

Is it top 5? I thought it was top 25 a few years back. Could be 5 now

Anyone listen to his interview here on WRX? Only complaint I have is that every time I listen to him he gives one word answers and doesn't seem hyped about what he's doing. Could be a personality, cultural or age thing but he needs to get up for these opportunities to speak to people.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Maybe we heard a different interviews, but his Gear Drive interview from a couple days ago sounded pretty standard. Seemed comfortable. Sounded like a kid when he talked, but that's because he is one. Didn't notice any one word answers.

He's is 17. Kids don't talk much. Hopefully he starts reading some books so he can build a vocabulary and not be the kid who didn't go to college because he "doesn't like school"

Yealimi Noh went to Korea to play last year instead of going to college. Did pretty well and now has her LPGA card for this season.

It only seems like a crazy choice if come this time next year he wasn't able to get on and play well in any major feeder tour like PTLA, Mackenzie or PGA Tour China (or their Euro equivalents).

However, if I were him, I would've gone to USC. Play for Coach Zambri at LACC & Riv (or wherever they play) and be close enough to Gankas to see him regularly.

I'm speaking in terms of quality of life, not where he ends up professionally. If he's as good as people say he seems to be, then he will get there at some point. No way to know which one would have been faster. I'm just picturing a 17-18 year old traveling around and grinding it out on those tours and comparing that the the life of a college freshman and sophomore. I know which one I would prefer but we all run our own race.

If he is as good as everyone says and he believes he is it will cost him a lot money to attend college vs what he could earn especially if he can obtain sponsors. It's was a gamble no matter what he did somehow I think he will end up just fine. I know everyone on here thinks college golf is great but honestly it only makes sense if your not a top ranked amateur already and need time to work on your game. He was already at place where turning professional in the first year should net him more than 4 years of college ever will.

Depending on how you travel/ your status (aka how soon can you book flights /hotel rooms ) anyone from 30-45 is borderline going to breaking even on the year on pgatourLA . Before living expenses. they've played 14 events so far . 1k or so in hotel rooms for the week . You can always do airbnb but thats how comfortable you wanna feel in those countries. 3-900$ for flights . 3-500$ for caddy.

$250 entry fee for the event iirc.

at the end of year if you include q school (2k)it will likely cost you 25-35k for the season.

Curious about a few things with this kid. What do his parents do? Who's bankrolling him? How much money did he get from Callaway when he signed with them upfront? I know he's on a Sponsors Exemption in SA this week from what I heard on a PodCast.
