Caught about 10 minutes of the replay coverage on Golf Channel last night and saw he was -4 through 5 holes. Just checked the leaderboard and he somehow finished at +3 through 2 rounds and is probably going to miss the cut.

What the heck happened!?!?!

!!! I saw that too. Was looking forward to seeing him try to make some noise on the weekend, but too many bogeys today and now he won't get a chance to

It seems like he plays aggressively, so is prone to either runs of birdies or bogeys/others. He plays a lot of qualifiers where only the top few guys get through, so going for birdie all the time and shooting low is the only way of making it. Wondering if that style of play isn't great in Tour conditions

We all know you played golf at a high level.  Is playing Par 5's over par the kiss of death for a competitive golfer?  Looking at his scorecard, he was +1 over the two days on the Par 5's.  Comparing to Spieth and the other leaders that are all under on the Par 5's.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

Usually yes, but maybe not this week. If you're making par on the par 5's you're usually losing 1/2 a shot or more to the field. However, they seem to be playing tougher for some reason this week. An old teammate of mine is in the field this week so I've been tracking him a bit. Looks like he played the par 5's pretty poorly also and he's not a short hitter (310+ driving average).

I guess I was just surprised that Akshay started off so hot and then seemed to immediately implode (-4 through 5 and then was E through 9). Maybe @tungstenplug is right that he's in this overaggressive mindset from trying to go low in Monday qualifiers. Hopefully he gets that figured out because I imagine these exemptions are going to dry out soon and he's going to find himself playing in a lot more of those Monday qualifiers than he already is.

He has done that several times though.  Well, not started that hot, but -1 or -2 and then implodes.  It's like he is sailing along and looks at the scorecard and thinks.  OMG I might make the cut.  Then the wheels come off.

At least he has that education to fall back on... Wait

Career earnings in a little over a year are over $200,000.00.  Don't know where he could find a job without a degree making that type of cash.

I think college is the best route, but can't knock his choice yet.

- coach
- travel
- tax
- caddie
- more expensive lifestyle cause at home is cheaper for sure
- saving for the time after being a pro

good luck with that salary, it sound much better than it is and yes I know he earns from sponsors as well but it will be less and less if he doesn't make cuts..

No doubt.  Definitely still have to pinch pennies, but many coming out of college do to.  I think the benefits will pay off in a few years, but who knows.  Life is a gamble and not guaranteed nothing.  Me, I would have went to school.  Rumor has it, though, him being home schooled he didn't have the proper credits to get into a University.

If he were smart he would have played his best in Texas or Florida instead of Arizona and California. Maybe going to college would have taught him about state income tax 🤣.

Don't get me wrong he is still in a good place, most students end the University with big debts or something they don't want to work in.
So he is already settled better than most, but people often don't understand how hard it is to make a living with 200k as a professional athlete fortunately he has sponsors who pay more than that, at least I hope for him he has.
He can always become a coach, pro shop worker, caddie what ever so I really think he still made the right choice, as long as he doesn't stop to educate himself and read books, but after what I read here I doubt he does because homeschooling doesn't close the door for Universities.
What ever wish him luck for everything he does cause he looks like a nice guy.

Wow, that was with an eagle 2 on the par 4 18th.  Yikes.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

It looks like that sponsor's exemption gravy train finally ran out for him.

Unfortunately, I guess it was bound to happen. He has only 3 made cuts between the PGA and KF tour over the last 14 months...

Well yeah, they’re only allowed 7 or 8.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

He finished outside of top 40. I assume that means limited starts in KFT next season?

I don’t know how it works but I don’t see him getting any guaranteed starts in 2022 per a recent golfweek article. Maybe the LA tour or Forme?

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

The KF Q school system is pretty complicated, but the way I understand it is that those outside the top 40 will get in only after they go thought the qualifying members from last year and then the first two reshuffles (1 after 8 events and another after 12). The top 10 from Q school are exempt through those first 12 events and the 11-40 guys are exempt through those first 8 events.

Basically anyone outside that top 40 will get a handful of starts over the course of the season, but unless they win once or twice in those limited starts they don't really have a chance at cracking the top 25 at the end of the year.
