Music on Course

Exactly my problem too. I play bass and have a musicians ear so anytime I hear music my mind begins breaking it down and identifying the various patterns. I can't stop myself from truly listening. And if the music sucks I just get even more bothered haha.

If I hang on my back porch with my family or friends, we listed to music at a level to still be able to have a conversation and concentrate on whatever we are doing. I do the same thing on the golf course and it has never impacted my ability to focus and or spend time with someone i am with.

Other people might find your soothing and relaxing music like fingernails on a chalkboard.

This argument could go on forever. I see both sides having a solid argument and it boils down to common curtesy. However, I would think soothing and relaxing is probably universally liked by most. The ones that dont most likely are somewhere besides the golf course. After all isn't that the purpose of golf, to relax and have a good time?

I have been in a group where I did not enjoy the type of music they were playing. They seemed to enjoy it and I didn't make an issue of it. It did not destroy my concentration, scoring or enjoyment of the round.

It’s Called noise pollution.

And I get both sides.

Example. Played us mid am qualifier at Carolina CC. Big nice 3 story home on the 10th fairway is blasting marshal tucker band. Some of my Hometown boys. It immediately set me into a good mood. Nearly jarred the second shot. Lasted a couple holes.

Could have easily been some garbage that would have done the opposite. Or ... I could have easily hated MTB and been put off. Point ? It has no place on a golf course. It provides a competitive advantage for moood and rhythm and is off putting to others. If you can hear it on your cart. Others can hear it to. That’s how ears work. They hear sounds. Lol.

Same reason they still give part of their tee time fees to golf now etc. peer pressure and a presumed loss of profit , which in reality isn’t true. Just having to put up with more crap for the same take home pay. lol.

Just curious, how often to people get paired up with someone wanting to listen to music when they do not? How many rounds does this happen to you as a percentage? I figure most of us have regular groups so there's an agreement on music or not within said group. Also, when since it seems like 50/50 on the issue seems like a random pairing would be that and nothing more.

See, I read this, and I want to say to all the others, can't you see? But then would probably answer back that it's ok, cause they heard it in a love song.

Lol. The song playing was in fact. Can’t you see. And was on a really good quality sound system. It sounded like the boys where playing in that back yard. As in from the fairway was like a floor seat at the concert. That loud and clear.

Doug gray can be seen in town doing any number of things. I’ve sat with him in the vets waiting room. Pumped gas beside him in his hummer etc. I listened in one day as a buddy of mine sold him a lawnmower battery. Bud asks him why he never moved away. He said “ everybody is cool here at home. I’ve been everywhere and never really found anywhere I’d rather be full time. “. Their bus is parked under cover at one of their buddies huge body shops back awning. I guess they pay to store it there.

This little town (spartanburg S.C.) has spat out many famous people over the years . From Bud Moore to cotton Owens ,to David Pierson . ( legendary factory backed race car drivers). , more nfl players than I can name, former home to surviving Lynrd skynrd band member Artimus Pyle , the aforementioned Marshall tucker band. hopefully future president Trey Gowdy , Oh and golfer William mcgirt - memorial winner. It s funny that you can run into any of those at any day in this one horse place.

> Despise it. And people who play it know there are people like me who despise it yet they play it anyway. Why should someone else’s irritation intrude on their enjoyment?

Using music against someone is just plain wrong. That would never be my intent and as stated would never play to outside my cart levels if partner had an issue with it. Sad to think there would be people that would actually do this.

Wait are you saying people play it to mess you up and after you, I assume kindly, ask to not hear it? Or are you saying people should assume you despise it and not play music ever? There's a big difference between the two.

Except music played too loudly caries much further than the smoke of a cigarette or cigar.

I am indifferent to it but don't understand shaming people for enjoying it. Golf is a game to be enjoyed, if that game is going to be enjoyed more with music then listen to music and don't be obnoxious to people around you. If everyone in your group wants to listen then listen, but when you get somewhere and there is a green near simply turn it off then turn it back on. If you are playing in a group and someone doesn't want to listen then don't listen. Its pretty simple.

I don't think anybody is shaming people for enjoying music. What we are shaming people for is imposing their music on others.

If you can smell cigarette smoke driving down the highway at 75 - 80 MPH you must have more olfactory receptors in your nose than a dog. Or maybe the smoker is in your car.

They want money. Bottom line.

It's the same reason they gave up dress codes and quit marshalling courses.

Can't exclude anynone, even if the show up to play in pajamas, blaring heavy metal, never fix their divots, pitch marks or rake bunkers. Just bring us that cash and we're good.

Some days at the muni are like Saturday at WalMart.

Had a guy pull up to the tee yesterday loudly playing talk radio......WTH?

But that doesn't address the problem I've seen where a group plays music that can be heard on the next hole over. It's not uncommon.

That’s just a lack of common sense. I’ve been looking for the answer to that my whole life.
