$6100 ? And that seller is legit, so if a scam it's on the buyer's end. Weird

Got it.

Look at the time stamps.

At the time those 800+ bidders hit the “place bid” button, the max bid was $77. They went to the next page and TRIED to bid $80.10 and $80.08 respectively. Looks like they hit an extra zero! Sucks for the one guy that in this particular auction two people made the same mistake at the same time. Otherwise, either of them would have won it for just over $91. This makes sense to me.

The max bid was $91.01 for 1 min and 32 sec prior to the first of the $800 bids, so your theory doesn't add up to me.

I get that, and have done the same, but the second highest nid was set at $800.80 and the next bid only increased by $.20. That's what is throwing me off. I would have thought it would have required a $1 increase at least. Oh well, it's the least strange thing about this bid history, I guess.

I think they sat on the place bid page for a couple minutes thinking about it.

Do you really think those were both legit bids? Unless the seller changed his mind and had a couple friends bid it up just to cancel the transaction so he could keep his driver. That’s my other theory.

If they sat there thinking about it, why bid less than the highest bid (working under theory they meant to bid $80.xx)? Between the Cobra driver for $800 and the Newport for $6100, I think it's some sort of scam by the buyers.

Edit- did some googling and came across the terms "nuclear bidding" and "sport bidding". Nuclear bidding makes some sense, sport bidding is just messed up. The Cobra appears to be an instance of two nuclear bids on the same item, or a nuclear bid and a sport bidder. Either way, seller will never get paid.

Not to worry, the buyer probably backed out. I sold a DI and winning bid was $236 or something and immediately after it sold the buyer said "sorry I cannot afford this" and backed out. I tried to argue with eBay that it wasn't my fault they saw a cheaper item after it was sold and I should get the money the guy bid. They said no and that was that. I sold it later for $175 locally; definitely annoyed I lost all of that considering the winning bid wasn't anything crazy high over market.

What DI? In my experience the going rate for any used AD DI with tip is ~$150. The buy never HAS to pay anything, it's not a binding contract. All that will happen is ebay could ban or suspend the buyer's account after multiple non-payment claims/abuse. Then the shyster will simply open a new account. Nothing you could do about it but relist. You'll get final value fees back too.

Sorry, DI-6. I'm talking CAD. All of the sold/completed listings I saw were for between $200-$250 when I listed it back in March.
