Ping G410 plus swing weight question

Recommended Posts

So I got a G410 plus head the other day. I threw a ADDI 7X shaft in it playing 44.5. Had a couple rounds with it and it feels very light and I’m struggling to hit consistent.

Ping website shows at 45-3/4 it’s D3 swing weight.

So am I correct in that I need to add 6+ swing weight points back to the head?

What’s the best way lead tape or just throw some extra screws in the fade and draw screw slot to bring the head weight back?

Thanks for any help on this. I did search and did read the SW thread tagged at the top but just wanted some extra input.

Cheers

Once you know how much weight you need to add, you can get single weights from Billy Bob's Golf:   https://store.billybobsgolf.com/product/ping-new-g-410-head-weights-weights-sold-separabley

Add lead tape until it feels right. Swing weight is just a number and when you get to the right SW and you hit it good, then that is the correct SW for that head, shaft and grip combination. Don't get hung up on some "standard" number.

Cheers for the advice.

I’m going to start with 6 grams lead tape 3 grams in fade and 3 in draw and go from there. Once I find the correct amount I’ll order extra weights.

Say I wanted a extra 10 grams all up would it be better to order 2 weights at 5 grams and install one each in the draw and fade slots?

Kinda like the extra weights for the epic or m3/m5.

Reviving this thread because of head weight question. Got my new 410 plus 10.5 with a Tour 65 S shaft on Friday and regripped with a GP Z cord midsize and then weighed the head. It came in at 200 grams including a 14 gram weight. According to Ping's website the swingweight is D-2. It sure didn't feel like it. I like heavy heads as I have my G driver head at 213 grams so I brought lead tape with me to my 1st range session. Initial swings brought low draws and overdraws because I didn't know where the head was in the backswing. Ended up adding four 3 inch strips forward under the face and it straightened out the ball flight immediately. Consistantly hit nearly perfectly straight shots with everything still in neutral settings. I thought Ping heads were heavier. Adding a 2 gram heavier weight(o.e.m. only has 16 gram) wouldn't amount to any difference. Has anyone else had to add this much weight to get the right feel? I'm not complaining. This thing is now really good! i'm just curious.

200 gm is fairly standard for a driver head weight - and that should include the weight of the adapter. So your 200 gm head is really more like 205-6 after you add the adapter. The fact that you need to get it up as high as you do is not unheard of but it's not very common if you are playing at the stock length (I believe is 45-1/4" for that shaft). Those who like to shorten the playing length - say 43-1/2" to 44-1/2" - it's not uncommon at all to have to add more weight.

It also could be an indication or a compensation that you're playing a shaft that's too light. Have you ever tried to to test or demo a heavier shaft. Something in the mid 70 gm to mid 80 gm range?

But the bottom line is the results. If that's what gives you the best results, then it doesn't really matter what others need to do.

I do have a Tour 75 shaft in my G driver. I would hit some pushes with the Tour 65 in that head. The G head must be more open than the 410 I guess. The 75 straightened that out due to being slightly softer. But I think I'll try to demo the Tour 75 shaft to see what happens. Stuart, lead tape seems to be working or should I have it hot melted?

That head weight is spot on. My Plus with a 16g weight is 202g. With a Tour 75 X-flex shaft, the SW is D3 since I play it -1/2". You can get weights up to 18g for the head, and after that, you are faced with using lead tape or hot melt. Since you added a heavier midsize grip, that is going to throw the SW off - basic SW info you can find all over the web.

And just to clarify, the specified SW of the Plus is D3, not D2: https://ping.com/en-us/clubs/drivers/g410-plus

Thanks for the reply. Went back to the range this morning and had the same results with the lead tape in place as yesterday. Down the middle. I went head to head with my G 10.5 Tour 75 and distance seemed to be similar {no radar and old eyes},but the dispersion with the 410 was much tighter. I'm really glad I bought it! Maybe I'll hotmelt it sometime down the road, but the lead tape is working.

Lead tape vs hot melt is largely just a matter of personal preference. Some don't mind the look of a head with lead tape on it, some do. Functionally there is no advantage of one over the other. Personally I prefer the lead tape largely because hot melt is a PITA to remove if you ever change your mind or want to continue to tweak the set-up. (e.g. different playing lengths or different shaft weights can lead to the need to change the head weight as well).

i ended up going with a extra 6 gram weight in the draw setting and the stock weight in the neutral setting, With a midsize gripmaster and playing length around 44.75 its swing weighting around D2.

I'm replacing my stock Alta CB Reg shaft with a playing length of 45.75", with a GD DI SR Flex with a playing length of 44.5" and want to be able to tweak the SW as needed.

I'm not wanting to go the hotmelt route or the lead tape. Has anyone tried this weight set or know anywhere else to get specific weights for the G410 line?

And even if you don't want to use lead tape as a final solution, it will always be the best way to figure out how much weight you really need to add for a length change.  The swing weight scale and the various swing weight "rules" are not a very good way.    Of course you could get that kit and test out different weights to get the answer but it seems a of an expensive way to do it, especially since you wont be able to reuse the kit for any future head.

Revisiting this topic as I'm tweaking my G410 Plus/Speeder Evo 661. Fighting a slight fade even with the stock 12g weight in the draw setting. With SS around 92-95 I need the power draw in my bag, and the ability to take the right side away.

I found a set of 4 weights, 14,16,18,20 for a reasonable price on the bay. This will let me play with weights until finding the right 1.
