Bend in early November

I am making a trip this fall to Bandon and before we get there we are trying to figure out where to play we are staying in Portland for 1 night and playing golf the next morning. We have 3 other days to play before we head to Bandon and I just wanted to get a feel for the course conditions as i know Bend is more central Oregon. Any help is much appreciated!! Only 66 days!!!!

Pretty sure most of the courses in Bend are closed by November. It gets really cold there in the winter.

Might be better off heading to the coast and playing courses (and seeing the scenery) as you drive down. That being said, there aren't too many courses out there with much pedigree. Gearhart is the best one I've played out there, but it's not really on the way.

Bandon has it's own weather characteristics, and it doesn't always follow the rest of the state or even the rest of the coast. Southern Oregon coast weather is a world of it's own.

 

November play is going to be heavily weather dependent, wherever you go in the PNW. East side of the mountains (Bend, Prineville, etc.) has a chance of some snow, but certainly chilly temps. I think most courses there close down in mid/late October. West side of the Cascades, you'll get quite a bit of rain, most likely, with the coast being the most wet, in general. You can get lucky and have some pleasant days in early November, but I wouldn't bet much on that happening. Some courses drain better than others, too. Bandon courses are built on sand, so they are really playable in all but the worst storms. No courses drain that well anywhere else in the state.

 

Best advice I can give is to keep the rain gear handy, as it's likely you'll need it. Or just be ready to spend a lot of time in the brewpubs...

Doubt Bend courses wil be oen but maybe. Give them a call. Even if they are open , the daylight window with frozen turf will be an issue. Save your gas money. Coastal courses are Gearhart, Salishan, Chinook Winds, a a couple in Florence. You will probably have to stick with I-5 corridor/Willamette Valley courses. Langdon,Herron Lakes, Reserve. Pumpkin Ridge. Stone Creek, OGA, McNary, Salem.

November can be a wet mess for golf.

My buddies and I spend the first week of October in Sunriver/Bend. Afternoons are typically in the 80's while the mornings can be frosty. It's a culture shock coming from Roseburg where it's still in the 90's in the afternoon and 50's in the mornings. No way would I book a trip in November. Way too cold, assuming the courses are open, and probably going to run into snow.

 

I'd fly into Portland and find a few courses to play there. Maybe, depending on the cost of travel, think about flying into Medford and play Eagle Point and Centennial. Then drive to Bandon. An out of the box thought. The weather in Medford is much drier and warmer than Portland and the drive is shorter. But flying into Medford costs more.

Juniper in Redmond will most likely be the only course open unless the weather is unusually warm. It was high 30's low 40's over the weekend but it's supposed to be close to 60 by this weekend. I would come back to Central Oregon another time.
