The New Ventus Black

If I’m in the 104-108ss range, is the general thought the 6s the way to go, instead of 6x. I’m a moderate loader, with smooth to moderate tempo. I’m always usually between S and X...

I was torn on tipping. The Atmos Black I played was tipped 1” and worked for me. Reading this helped me decide.

PGATOUR.COM: How does tipping affect a shaft such as this, given the intent of the design?THOMPSON: It still has a 2.5-inch parallel tip section so you can still tip it. Out here, on TOUR, it’s usually a 1-inch tip is standard to stabilize that profile a little bit for them. I don’t like going above an inch, just because you start getting into the mid-section of that shaft and you’ve totally taken out what that tip was designed to do. So I think we get a little tip happy sometimes out here, we start trimming, but when you’re working with guys who are swinging it as fast as they are, 120 mph, they have to have something that feels very stable to them. So I would say you can get away with an inch tip. You’re not affecting the design, you’re tightening it up, you’re stiffening it up a little bit. One inch equals one flex, or ten cycles (CPMs). Anything more than that I think is unnecessary.

Anyone notice much flight difference between black and blue ventus? Currently play atmos 6s but need to go to x stiff and 70plus grams. Play my f9 at 9* but wanted to try 7.5 and ventus blue

That’s a big jump in shaft from 6S atmos, even if it’s black, to a 7x in either blue or black.

Just my opinion, from many friends who have ordered both, the blue is a livelier version of the black but still stable enough, but the black is very linear but not overly boardy. Most guys that have gone 7x in either are 110+

I have a problem with the left side since I close my club head a bit much. Thinking of going 7x with some hot melt in the toe to straighten me out a bit

You won’t need hotmelt in the toe - most guys think 5-7g changes launch conditions but there’s a reason why MWT is always 12+ g for directional. If you hotmelt that much your driver head will feel too heavy unless you get a sub 195g head

just go 7x black straight in, if you like linear feeling control or 7x blue tipped 1/2” if you like to feel a bit of load and unload.

I have both. The Blue as someone said is livelier but still stable. When I need more carry I will use the Blue. The Black is a nice penetrating flight for me and lowered the flight but doesn’t knuckle at all and doesn’t feel boardy. Nice and smooth. Still can elevate it with no issues. I’ve been playing 6X in both for drivers. However I did buy and hit the Blue 7X and it did feel more stable than the 6X and helped lower the flight. I have a quick and aggressive transition, even when I try and smooth it out I’m still quicker than my friends. I think that’s why I found the Ventus to the best of the bunch for me and before that the Tensei Pro White was the top dog. This is the only shaft I’ve hit that was better, at least for me.

I just bought a Black 6S for those days my back is really tight and waiting for it to arrive. The weather here is going to be raining for a while so it might be a while before I can test it out.

Shot in the dark here but has anyone played the Ventus Black and the Diamana ZF? I would assume there would be a significant lowering of ball flight with a little more stability. I have nothing but great things to say about the ZF but the Ventus Black appears to be a hot item right now so I may be inclined to give it a shot. My swing speed is around 110-112ish with a very quick transition so anything that can prevent me from my dreaded pull shot would be great!

Did you notice any dispersion tightening? What about distance? I'm fairly accurate with the ZF when my swing is good but I'll take every yard I can get.

I got this at the end of season here in Calgary so only have one round and a few simulator sessions with it, with a winter swing too. I would say that an increase in dispersion for me is evident primarily from my preferred feeling of the shaft feeling more one piece -- therefore haven't felt like I lose the head within the swing. Maybe a small uptick in distance from lower spin, however, don't quote me as I haven't been able to give it a true shake with the timing I received it.

Very cool! I think you're talking me into it, but I want to sleep on it. If anyone else wants to talk me into it feel free to do so! :)

I moved from Kuro Kage Dual Core 70TX to the Ventus Black 6x. I switched driver heads from the Ping 400 LST to the 410LST and just wasn’t finding the center of the face as often as I was with the KKDC in the 400 LST. Enter the Ventus Black. I don’t normally buy into manufacturer claims but the Velocore tech in this shaft works as described. I am finding the center of the face with driver as often as I ever have and the launch/spin conditions have enabled me to pick up a few yards (5-10) but more importantly I am in the fairway more often as well. My stock shot with driver is a fade and this shaft performs as expected. Good swings start on line with a slight drop to the right, poor swings miss in the right rough but playable. This is perfect for me as I try my hardest through swing and equipment setup to eliminate the left miss. Good for good, this has been an unequivocal upgrade for me. YMMV.

I also picked up a 7x to play in my M3 HL but I am firmly in the fence. I wanted to decrease the shaft weight in both driver and 3 wood so coming from an 80TX the feel is just different. I will say this: good shots are great. Given the added loft of the head I’m having no issue launching the ball from the tee or deck and I’m pinning any inconsistency of strike on the static weight change. Looking forward to getting more time to test.

I'm going to bite the bulllet and get a 6X untipped playing 44.5" in my G410 LST. I've read nothing but great things about this shaft, it's surely going to become a cult classic.

Picked up a 7x for my Epic Flash SZ about a month ago.

I've finally found something to unseat the HZRDUS Yellow that's been beating all challengers so far.

I can't wait to get this thing outside on the course. The numbers and performance I'm seeing on trackman so far during simulator league are awesome.
