Toulon Steel Vs. Toulon Stroke Lab

Recommended Posts

For the people playing the 2019 Toulons, did you go with steel or Stroke Lab and why? I know I am going to be very happy with the putter regardless I am just curious as to what people are playing with the newer Toulon-Odyssey models. I recently ordered a "Like-New" Toulon Vegas H7 with a steel shaft and am wondering if I should try to find a stroke lab shaft to substitute in or stick with the steel shaft that comes with it.

I had a Memphis last year with a steel shaft and it was ok. Stopped by PGA today and they had some with the Stroke Lab shafts and I really liked the feel compared to last years model.

I'm staring at two Las Vegas putters right now - the steel shaft has a T|7 and the stroke lab has an S|20

Blind buy I would go with the steel shaft for the weight as I like a heavier putter and the step-less shaft have a bit of a stiffer feel to it.

Now if I was to do a fitting and they told me go with Stroke Lab I would.

I was visually distracted by the steel tip in the Stroke Lab shaft. So, I had the steel chrome tip sand blasted and painted black to match the carbon in the upper section of the shaft by Quality Golf in Santa Ana CA.

They did a great job and the cost was very reasonable. Now the putter looks and performs great.

IMHO, Odyssey would be wise to have the steel tip section be black and match the black carbon upper section.

I wouldn’t trade my Las Vegas Stroke lab for the world. Best rolling and best feeling putter I own, so soft yet solid. Stroke lab worked for me, I can still roll standard putters but notice a big difference with stroke lab. It did take some getting used to, but during that period I made so many putts I stuck with it, it was more an adjustment to the line my putts started on. Literally one of the purest putters I have ever rolled, especially for high tech and gimmicky it may appear.

I had the older Austin with a steel shaft and "upgraded" to the Austin Stroke Lab -- I felt the stroke lab shaft took away the usual feel of a putter having the heavier head and grip. I guess I'm a traditionalist and just liked the steel shaft better. But the Toulon face feels great regardless -- just depends on the feel you're looking for.

I have the Austin head and am trying to switch out the Stroke Lab shaft with a .370 FST matte black steepless shaft, but the shaft seems to be slightly too big for the head. I've tried sanding it down a hair but when I really put pressure and try to wiggle it in (dry-fit) its simply wearing down the black finish to raw steel. Is this normal or is the .370 steepless the wrong fit?

IMO the stroke lab is superior for distance control

Its not so good that it completely replaces regular shafts - they still work great - but the stroke lab is very cool. Its not for everyone, though.

Regarding the head weight/sole plates, if the SL comes with the 20 gram plate for a headweight of 365 grams, the steel one comes with a 7 gram plate for a headweight of 352 grams, correct?

I apologize if I missed it, but is there a unified thread of which stroke lab models have which weight in the butt end, and if it differs by putter length?
