Golf-monthly review called it "hybrid muscleback". Apparently the branding needs some clarification.

Had a fitting today. I went in thinking 919 tour. Very surprised with the MMC. Didn't order anything as I need to decide which way to go. Right now I am leaning 919. Will definitely be hitting both again before ordering.

The HMB I hit way too high. Which ever way I go my 4 iron will most likely be the P790 with the Hazardous shaft.

Great review. Eager to see these and how the MP20 HMB compares to the MP18 MMC Fli-Hi, which seems to be the most like it design-wise. And those Fli-Hi’s are the easiest-to-hit long irons in a compact head that I have tried.

They’re not really that strong lofted so don’t expect huge numbers. Most reviews I see they’re getting similar numbers compared to the MMC’s which have similar lofts. I hit them and they’re very nice feeling/sounding for a non forged hollow iron.

I hit the both the MP20 and MMC20 6 irons today - both look and feel great. I got ~10 more yards of carry out of the MMC, which makes sense given the 2 degrees of lower loft. I also tested the Titleist 620 MBs and CBs... man are those visually intimidating... way spinnier and carried shorter too. Had to end my fitting early but hoping to hit the HMB long irons next week in part II

Right. I just meant the lofts match between the sets. The JPX and future mp lines didn't really line up across the lines.

Ah sorry, when I say taking loft off I mean making the loft weaker... my fault!

I'm really pumped they have the SELs for us lefties but honestly I think I'd want to play the HMB all the way up to 6i, maybe even 7i. 100% I don't want to game a 5i blade.... If Mizuno went through the lengths to design and buy the supplies/processes for lefty HMB 3 and 4's, why not just finish the set? I strongly believe these will be better than the Apex 19 irons or the P790's because many reviews I've seen put these as the most consistent iron as far as distance dispersion goes.

All 3 of them look wonderful to my eye, the HMB is just a little bigger. I am going to take HMB, MMC and 919 Forged demo 7 irons to the course this weekend to help me decide but hitting inside into a net I saw very little difference in performance from all 3. I am leaning heavily toward the HMB.

Looking at Mizuno's comparison table, the HMB is almost the exact same dimensions (blade length, offset, sole width) as the 919 Forged, but with a marginally slimmer topline. As someone who has gamed the 850 Forged for a while, that has me _very_ intrigued.

The HMB looks a little larger than the 919 Forged in person. The dimensions are very similar but the cambered sole on the HMB makes it measure more narrow than it is. With its hollow two-multi-piece construction, it has a larger backside than the 919F. But not a tremendous difference. I think it would be easy to combo any of these irons.

There is a cost for tooling the forging setup for every club. Mizuno probably had a pretty good idea of how many extra 5i and 6i HMB's they'd sell if they gave the option there and it simply wasn't worth it financially. I'm sure there was internal debate about whether or not to go 5i or 4i as the highest lofted HMB in the set, but they probably have tons of data on how sets are ordered and that maximized the number of people.

I'm definitely going to be in the minority camp here, but I was let down by the looks of the MP20 line in person. They aren't as small as I was hoping for and something about them looks sort of lumpy and odd to my eye. The soles on the MP20 are a lot larger than I expected them to be as well. I was floored by the looks and feel of the 620MB this year and I have never, ever been a fan of Titleist irons...

The MP20 though is what should have been the replacement for the MP5 line IMO and they are a great step back in the right direction from last model's MP18!

I saw the entire line at a demo day in Chicago last week. Every club as they had full sets of each line. Have been in the market for a new set and was waiting for these to test before deciding. After demoing for a couple hours at the fitting day then the next day confirming number at an indoor fitting center, I went with HMB 4,5 iron, 6-9 MMC and T20 46 degree wedge. Of course everything is personal preference, however I had consistent yardages shot after shot without any jumpers on both the HMB and MMC. Also the best ball speeds with the seven iron compared to a lot of others I compared them too. I may down the line go with the MMC 5 iron but after seeing a lot of tour guys going with more forgiving five irons, why shouldn't I? We all have preferences but it was these or a set of Miuras. I love the fact I could see every iron and cant remember having a full set that each head fits my eye very well and this set does just that. The feel was solid as you'd expect from Mizuno and for me its important to have irons that quality is priority #1. If the top line on the HMB's could be a tad thinner, that would be my only complaint.

Walk into my local shop today and fresh off the truck were boxes of the entire MP 20 line. He let me take the MP 20 MMC 7 iron and the 7 iron HMB to the range and man oh man...love.

Both look and felt fantastic.

I want to pull the trigger but want to go through a shaft fitting and decide if I should do a combo set or just go MMC all the way through.

I knew I shouldn't have walked into the golf shop today.

I hit all three 7s and ordered 5-6 HMB, 7-9 MMC and P MB. The HMB look great to me, the 7 arguably looks better in HMB than MMC (keep in mind, I'm a mid-handicap). I've now seen all 3 sets and feel comfortable with my decision. I will say that the MMC PW looks large in relation to the 9, as seems to be the case with Mizuno irons. Very happy that I selected the MB over MMC in PW. Now the question is, what about a T20 gap wedge, lol. :)

I ended up going with 3-6hmb and 7-pMB. I considered going full hmb, but the scoring irons were just a tad too large for my liking. I probably could've went with 6-pMB, but I'll take the extra confidence with the 6i for now. I can always shift the combo's either way down the road. Can't wait for them to arrive and get them out on the course.
