Titleist EXP-01

From what I was told this ball falls some where between the AVX and the Pro V1. The real difference is that it has a two part cover with the seams rather than sprayed like the Pro V's and AVX. I just received two dozen and will be doing a test this week and will have a couple of my friends testing with me. I hope that it flies higher than the AVX and plays like the others have said. It will fall in at a good price point when it goes into production …..If it goes into final production. Should be interesting as I usually play Pro V1X.

Most obvious is this is a technology experiment on a large scale. Essentially subsidizing a prototype stage of the process. Almost guarantee this ball wont become a "retail" model, but if consumer feedback and demand is strong enough then who knows.

I’ve played the EXP and like others have mentioned it’s comparable to the AVX. I would say definitely a tad firmer, flights higher, straighter, and spins more. I was able to compare this ball and the AVX side by side and the only thing I hated about the EXP was the cover. I thought durability wise it was poor compared to the AVX or Pro V1/V1X. Put the same cover as the AVX on it with the same performance I would really love the EXP.

What didn't you like about the cover?

I didn't have any issues with the cover. I played 15+ holes with one ball and there wasn't a single mark on it when I pumped it OB off the tee.

The durability of the cover IMO was sub par and marked up on full shots with my 47* and 52* wedge.

Yeah, that looks nasty. I'd be disappointed too.

Are your wedges newer? Mine are older so that may have contributed to me not seeing seeing the cover issues.

I get the disappointment but It’s an experimental ball with a new cover. This is the kind of stuff titleist is looking for feedback on. We may never see the ball again or we may see it in a revised version later next year or sometime after hat.

Yes, my wedges are on the newer side so I would say that contributed to marking up the cover.

I fully understand that and after a couple of rounds with the ball I submitted my survey and stated that the cover was the only issue I saw with the ball loved everything else about it.

I haven’t had the chance to get them on the course yet and I’m trying to go into playing them with no expectations. Want to keep hopes low

Spins more is disappointing, or do you mean green side spin?

I love everything about the AVX except for the horrible feel of the driver - way too low compression at “only” 105Mph. But it makes wonder for my iron play with lowering the launch and spin to almost normal numbers for my steep swing. As a reference I spin a 34 degree 7 iron 718 AP2 8850rpm with 2019 Pro V1, 9000rpm with 2019 Pro V1x, but “only” 7800rpm with AVX.

The ultimate ball for me is some kind of AVX-X, and I had high hopes this ball was it :-/

(Yes I know I have a swing flaw, but been playing like this for years and stable hcp below 5 - I will live with it :-) )

I don’t understand how people get upset about how an experimental ball wears, performs, etc. as you mention it’s cool titleist is letting the public into the testing process.

This is not the ball for you with those numbers. I’m the opposite of you with launch and spin numbers, but swing speed is the same with the driver. The AVX was too low launch and spin for me and the 2019 Pro-V1X works really well for me but The feel is a little firm for my taste. The EXP is almost the perfect ball fit wise for me. Again, I’m not a fan of the new urethane cover Titleist is using but I could live with it.

Not upset about the cover, just giving my opinion on how the ball performed. The durability of the ball is also one of the things Titleist is asking about in the survey from users. People are asking how the ball performs so why not give them The information they are looking for.

One is a retail ball and one is a limited release experiment and may never see the light of day and is getting feedback for testing/research. If it does get an update for more consumer testing or put into tour seeding that’s an issue titleist will fix. Also a big different between a small nick in a ball and a cover coming off

Theses are both retail balls and I’m willing to bet that Titleist makes more of the EXP-01 than Costco received of the KP1.

You are right about the covers though, there is no comparison to the covers literally tearing off the mantle.
