Titleist EXP-01

I'll just throw my experience with it in here:

1.2 index, 103 driver SS. Typically a high flight/spin player.

Overall, I found it to be a good 'winter' ball option, but not good enough to knock the TP5 out of my bag. If it was a lower price point, I'd consider it more. Greenside spin, for me, wasn't as good. Iron spin was about on par with TP5. Driver distance was about equal, flight was slightly higher and seemed to have a bit less rollout. Felt firmer than the TP5.

Good ball, but I won't be buying it at a premium pricepoint.

I'm from the 3rd World as far as Titleist is concerned, or the UK as other people call it, so haven't had access to these until last week on a work trip to California I managed to sneak in a couple of games at Titleist stocking clubs, so picked up a dozen.

Haven't tried them at home as the 3rd World is also currently under water, but I played 27 with them out there and came away suitably impressed. Seemed long and straight off the driver, and stopped beautifully from a full shot. Felt pretty good off the Putter, with the caveat I was using rentals so will need to test again with my own kit.

Only had a Tour B RXS to compare it to, and found the EXP 01 performed far better in the conditions I was playing. Finished the trip up with 4 birdies in 8 holes, so the ball gets a thumbs up from me ?

Interesting. I just lost the last of my EXP-01 dozen this past weekend. I could definitely see myself using the Tour Speed as a winter ball, which is something I noted about the EXP-01 when I first got them, but honestly at that price point I'd prefer to either spend a little bit more for the B RX, a ball that I love, or a little bit less for the TM Tour Response, a ball from the same company as my gamer TP5.

I liked the EXP-01 but didn't love them. Can't imagine the Tour Speed would sway me any different.

The thing I wonder is if they toughened up the cover a bit to prevent the damage from normal play - will be interesting to hear how the Tour Speed turned out.

Retail price is slightly less than Pro V1/Pro V1x as it has to be if they're going to sell any of them at all. But as a long-time Pro V1x addict (and erstwhile AVX user) the price point for this ball is actually no lower than Pro V1x with the twice a year promotional pricing. Buying 4doz in the Spring costs $144 (works out to $36/dozen) and around Black Friday Pro V1x are $40/dozen.

Of course it's always possible they will offer Spring/Fall promotional pricing on the new ball but I doubt it.

I think it is totally targeted to appeal to golfers who prefer the sound, feel, ball flight and spin of the Chrome Soft. To me that's what the new ball seems most similar to. Titleist may think that they can slightly undercut Chrome Soft on price while capitalizing on the well-publicized quality issues with Chrome Soft and lure away a few Callaway users. But that's totally my own theory based my perception of the EXP-01 during a brief tryout.

Tour Speed feel a hair softer to me then the EXP01 and the AVX which I normally play. Played a few rounds with the Tour Speed now and feels great. May be my new ball, will buy a dozen once my club gets them!

How was the ball flight and short game spin compared to EXP-01 and the AVX - or Prov1, or ProV1x?

Ball flight seemed the same as AVX. Short game spin maybe a little less bite then the AVX. Been awhile since I've played prov so I can't really compare it to them

For my part around the greens EXP-01 seemed to perform fine, even if a little dead or heavy feeling. But I also had no short-game concerns with AVX.

Agree that ball flight was markedly low, like AVX. But with AVX that low ball flight gave me some extra runout on tee shots (compared to Pro V1x) while EXP-01 did not impress me at all with driver distance.

I just got off a call with Titleist, and the new Titleist Tour Speed golf ball is the EXP01 ball, but with some small tweaks / improvements to the aerodynamic package and similar that make it better.  So if you like this ball, you should check out the new Titleist Tour Speed golf ball.
