Putter that restored your confidence inside 5 feet?

I get few chuckles, when I use my putter.. But I can swear by it..

Almost the same design as Odyssey 2 ball. Cleveland said Square is easier to line up than 2 ball and changed it.

I dont' worry about short putts anymore.

Make sure to get TFI version.. better feel..

This is obviously such an individual thing its almost not worth recommending any individual putter. I'll add to my previous posts, in which I suggested that practice is the best way to solve the OPs problem. An additional option would be to get fit for a putter, to make sure you can actually line the putter up in the direction you intend to hit it. Different shapes, different hosels, different alignment aids can all influence your ability to line up properly. I don't care which famous manufacturer you use, how much the putter costs, if you can't consistently line up properly, you'll never consistently make putts.

Traditional wisdom states that mallets will be better with short putts, and blade designs better with long/lag putting. Take that for what it is worth.

Yes, but traditional wisdom had the ball starting on the clubhead path, which has been proven wrong. I have no idea whether the putting generalizations are right or not.

Like all generalizations, I think this conventional wisdom concerning putters is correct to an extent - and there are always exceptions. But given the sheer number of options out there, you need some way to narrow the search.

As such, I think the "mallets for short putts, blades for long putts" adage provides a useful starting point when thinking about putters, and what might work best for a given individual.

I've been a 2-Ball user for the last 6-7 years and never thought I'd find something easier to align. In 2016, my former CEO gave me an Odyssey White Hot Tour 7H that he just never used. It looked odd and nowhere near as easy to line a putt up with as a 2-ball, so I set it in the basement and forgot about it . I got it out a couple of weeks ago, just for the heck of it, and it clicked with me. I've used it for 3 rounds now and I actually find this #7 shape easier to aim. I use the inside edges of the tynes to aim and it's been great for me so far. Possibly just a honeymoon period, but it's given me a lot of confidence inside of 8 feet.

A putter is all preference. Some people feel more confident with a blade than a mallet and vice versa. I would go test some different options. I was playing a tour black spider and switched back to my old scotty and have had so much more confidence with that than I ever did with the spider from inside 10 feet.

Scotty studio stainless newport beach. I like it without alignment aids as I feel I can focus on squaring up the face to align with the hole.

@davep043 is right. Two page thread with 30 suggestions.

Its individual and tough to name just one.

I know I personally like a big mallet with a heavier head and multiple sight lines. I've tried everything and thats what I roll the best. I have a slight arc and need a little toe hang.

My favorite to look at is a #7 style fang with a crank/plumber neck but I don't putt as well with it. I have no chance with an anser style light head.

Ping Ketsch for me has given me the most confidence over the last 5 years or so and I currently have 7 putters at home lol. It just fits the most criteria for me personally.

Long story short: I would recommend you find the weight/shape/hosel/length/lie you like the most and then match up the head that helps you line up the best.

Wasn’t the putter, I changed how I grip the putter. I used to one finger overlap (like Tiger) but switched to the same finger down the grip instead. My average since I switched four months ago is 30 putts.

I don’t think anything beats practicing with a putter you like the look of personally. I try to hole at least ten five footers on my carpet a night, trying to hit a tee peg. I just need to sort the rest of my game out now!

When I see a player pull out a weird putter I assume there’s a decent chance they’re money with it.

Mine isn't anything special, just the retail version with the 345 gram head and not the tour issue with butane finish. I guess from being in my basement for so long, the finish on mine looks aged. I'm not sure what caused it as it was in the headcover the whole time and in a finished area with a dehumidifier running. The wear shows up better in this pic than it does out in the sun. I actually kind of like the way it looks. I wouldn't mind getting the White Hot Pro and RX versions, as I like those inserts, but I doubt they'll knock this one out of the bag.

Which version of the #7 are you using? (edit: nevermind, I just read your signature and saw White Ice. I also like that insert as that was my favorite 2-ball insert).

I think that thing looks pretty sweet, and I remain jealous. I like the patina. Doesn't have to be tour issue to be something special. The White Hot insert in that thing remains one of Odyssey's best.

I have the White Ice #7 from 2010. It's not one of the fancier or more highly coveted models, but I think it provides a good compromise in terms of head size/weight, insert, and alignment aids. I think it is the same head size as the White Hot Tour, but someone else may correct me. Besides the insert and finish color, the only other difference is a three dot alignment aid on the top line, vs. the solid line on the White Hot Tour. Like so:

OK, I keep coming back here, so I have a follow up question. Here's a list of putters that have "cured" problems with short putts:

2-Ball

Spider Tour

Betti #28 Slotback

Piretti Matera

Cleveland HB #10

Spider X

Odyssey #7

Ping Tatum

Odyssey Tri-Ball SRT

Scotty Fastback 2

Kombi

Scotty Newport

Directed Force

Scotty Phantom X 8

OG Futura X

Future 5s

Cleveland Smart Square

Armlock Bettinardi HM2

Oddyssey White Hot 2

Jailbird Mini S

Cleveland HB Soft 11

My question then becomes, which of us have **DEVELOPED** a problem with short putts using one of these putters?
