I’m gonna assume this means you don’t think it’s a good product?

Ya while I admit it likely won’t give super accurate data, it seems like a good way to get some feedback on your hits for a relatively low price. I also like that you can use it inside as a simulator or on the range via their app. And it works with almost golf balls too.

That's cool! Is it true that it's not compatible with a Mac computer? And do you find the readings accurate? What kind of data does it give you?

Basically, it measures path and clubface based on reading where you start and feeling the vibration from impact. I've found it to be incredibly valuable for the price. It's no Trackman or Skytrak, but it gives you a reasonable amount of feedback on shot shape. Of course the R-Motion implicitly assumes that you are hitting the ball squarely, so it cannot pick up thin or fat contact.

I had been working on my swing indoors this past winter and plugged in the R-Motion; I thought it was broken because it had me slicing everything. Sure enough, my first time at the range in the spring and I'm slicing everything; the R-Motion was right.

After making sure the settings were correct (you tell R-Motion how far away the sole of the club is from the clip), I am able to get very accurate readings on my distance wedges as well; literally right on top of my real life yardages. Chipping is tougher, but it generally works.

I've even found that it has helped my putting as it provides clubface and path metrics on putts. Highly recommended from my end. Like I said, I'm really just eagerly awaiting that 2019 TGC interface!

Correct. Although do note that SkyTrak does a pretty good job of calculating club data (AoA, Dyn Loft, Swing path, Face to path) based on ball flight and assuming center contact. The calculated data isn’t displayed in the SkyTrak app, but may be viewed with our Advanced Analytics app (demo at https://gungohogolf.com/ron/analytics).

I have one and, for the price, it is okay. I use real golf balls and hit into a net in my basement. I don't find it to be accurate for yardage, but for spin and path it seems pretty good. Helped make last Winter go faster. When I get some time I hope to try to tweak it to see if I can get it to be more accurate.

Thanks for the info. So is it fair to say that a device like the R-Motion tracks the club while launch monitors track the ball? Is that a fair generalization to make?

Thanks. I think using it on the range could also be useful. The golf swing happens so fast so I think that getting this data is useful so that we can know what's going right and what's going wrong. And like people said, the price is reasonable :)

Yes, there is no ball tracking on the R-Motion, only the club. Something like Skytrak is only looking at the ball, not the club at all.

I have both Optishot and R Motion. There is no comparison, the Optishot is a game and R Motion is much more of a simulator. The graphics on R Motion which is The Golf Club game is way above Optishot. The Optishot graphics a dull and unrealistic. If I hit a fat or thin shot on R Motion it is very close to real as it affects the ball flight and distance. Optishot I wiff the ball completely and it will register the shot. If you tweek the clubs you can get your distances done very cloase. If they would update to TGC 2019 if would be great. Unbeatable for the price.

Given the price of the R-Motion these days ($100), I think it's a no-brainer. I picked one up on Black Friday and love it so far. At first it was more of a proof of concept for my garage simulator build than anything else, but I've found that it exceeds my expectations. It delivers pretty dang accurate club data, though assumes a perfectly struck ball, so won't be super accurate if you hit it fat/thin/shank etc. Generally the better golfer you are, the more accurate it will be. But, it does seem the best way to get club data outside of $5k+ systems like the GC2HMT/Uneekor etc.

A couple notes, it does work in conjunction with Skytrak. However the caveat is that they only work together in concert in the original TGC, not TGC2019, which makes it less than ideal since TGC2019 is generally a more accurate/better sim software than its predecessor. Additionally, the phone app is more questionable in its accuracy compared to running it on the computer in TGC. I haven't checked whether the club data (path etc) is as accurate as TGC or if it's just the shot shape/distance algorithms that aren't as good, but it's something to note. It also takes some dialing in with your specific clubs, since you'll have to set your club loft and length (though not your actual club length as measured by the manufacturer, rather the length from the sole to the bottom of the R-Motion clip.)

There's been a lot of talk about R-Motion upgrading to TGC2019, but then a whole lot of nothing, so we'll see.

I recently replaced my Optishot with R-Motion. I liked the Optishot. It was very easy to use and it it seemed to do a good job of picking up club path and face angle, which are the main things that I want to see. I like that you can switch clubs without changing attachments and it is very easy to align shots. However, the ball flight was definitely not accurate. The starting direction was affected too much by the swing path. It seems to use the "old ball flight rules" rather than what you see on Trackman. The hope was that R-Motion would be more accurate. The problem I'm having is that I'm never certain that I have the sensor on straight and it does tend to slip over time so that it has to be readjusted. I had one break already because I was over-tightening it. It also calculates your swing based on the face angle at address. So if I'm a little open or closed at address there can be a major effect on the flight. It seems that even if this device is capable of being more accurate there are enough variables to make it unreliable. Does anyone else have these concerns?

The Rapsodo is far from perfect, but I don't think there is anything close in its price class. I like it to get some feedback during the winter by playing the different courses, but do not think it is reliable for all of the statistics it provides. I also lazily only use a 5 iron and just change clubs using the club selection in the software. I typically see all of my short irons show hook or are pulls, while my 3 wood and driver are pushes or fades. The middle irons seem to have a straighter ball flight. I keep waiting for there to be some magic software update that will make it more accurate, but I think that it is what it can be given its limitations.
